Funny, but The Daily Show came first. Also, The Daily Show is more topical, wheras the Colbert Report tends to get caught in it's own nonsensical world without saying anything new about the outside world (not all the time, but often). My favorite part of the Colbert report is The Word, and my least favorite part is the interviews, because Stephen never actually lets hear what the guest wants to say. My favorite part of The Daily Show is all of it.

I like the Daily Show as a parody of cable news. I like the Colbert Report because Stephen Colbert is a funny man and it's a great late show. It's not really that great of a parody of news, but it's still pretty funny.
The inflation rate in Zimbabwe just hit 4 million percent. Some people say it is only 165,000, but they are just being stupid. -Scott Adams, artist and writer of Dilbert

It's a parody of a parody, which kinda gets in the way of avoiding being inane. But he's still fun to watch and his cleverness really shows through on the interviews, which is the most important thing, I think.
