KotoR deserves an honorable mention, but for some reason I'm hesitant to award best game ever to an RPG. The keys to an RPG are story and characters, and to my knowledge there aren't too many works of art out there.

greatest platformer: sonic the hedgehog 2 (god i love that old genesis)
greatest rts: warcraft 3
greatest fps: halo (the first one)
greatest rpg: kotor, still rocks so many years later...

honorable mentions: whatever that zelda game for the 64 way, i never played it but my friends still wont shut up about it. also, pokemon was pretty freakin awesome (i had the yellow one)

Are we talking next gen or not. If not then I agree with you choices(some of them). KOTOR is a classic. It puts alot of the next gen games to shame, even some of the good one's.

Have you ever played GTA1 in multiplayer? Do you know the situation when you've just stolen a cop car or something similarly fast and and are heading straight for the arrow that's pointing towards another player and just as you see him standing there, apparently an easy target he launches a rocket straight at you. And in the 100th part of a second you have to decide whether to take him down with you or whether to try to evade. The single player mode of GTA1 is good, but nowhere near as intense as playing against RL opponents.

And I'll profess general agreement with Androidz and say that FF7 rocks your socks off.

OoT pales in comparison to Twilight Princess, methinks. I even think The Wind Waker was better than OoT *gasp*. Though it was MUCH harder to get really into.

But to say a few things in pseudo-seriousness:
1. I understand that Halo did not do anything crazy innovative. But as a FPS, it was extremely refined. It took a lot of things that were good about other FPSs and put them into one neat and good-looking package. There's a reason people like it so much. Give it a little more credit.

2. I actually enjoyed Perfect Dark even more than Goldeneye (and I LOVED Goldeneye). IMO, it was Goldeneye + Much More.

3. All Zelda games pale in comparison to A Link to the Past. All Mario games pale in comparison to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. There is no debate.

Final Fantasy 7, although I don't play it anymore, takes the cake for pwning my life. Must have beat that game at least 7-8x, and playing the game around 50-60 hours each player through... that's like 350 hours of my life gone when lowballing it. So about 15 days straight of FF7.

I used to be an addict of Roller Coaster Tycoon, but my cpu kept screwing the game up(ex.I couldn't save my progress) so I gave up on playing it.
It was a pretty good game, as I consider all of the "tycoon" games to be good.
