There have been 17 threads about a London map. A couple of them are about the London Underground - abandoned for copyright reasons - but whoever takes it on should read some of those threads to find out why they failed/stalled.

I know you're not looking right now and I'm probably not either at the moment but sometime if you're interested I was thinking that Philadelphia at the time of the American Revolution would be an interesting map. It could include nearby places such as Valley Forge, the Brandywine Battlefield, Washington's Crossing etc. Not sure if this would interest you but if you've got interest in a few months I'd be happy to collaberate. I know nothing about how to do a map but I am local to Philly with a severe addiction to history. If Philadelphia isn't for you, that's OK as well, just throwing out ideas.

sure, but find an inhabitant who has the time and skills. I think if a local paired up with one of our regular mapmakers this could make for a great collaborative map. if somebody who really knows the city is serious about making this happen, I'm willing to talk with them.

It looks like the boroughs would be the easiest way to go, but if you do want to add some historical context as well then why not go for a 1960's style map. You could get the Kray and Richardson gangs caricatured in there as well as all the swinging 60's bollocks.

Just had another idea - Victorian times. Some stuff that could be used - Jack the Ripper, the Bow Street runners, Alexandra palace, the London Underground.
It's also the time when a lot of the landmarks London is famous for were built so it would still be recongnisable to people as London.
