Is ther any way of finding out how close you are to getting a medal?

Nope. You can go through your games and start counting. In the Suggestions, someone suggested there be an indicator to let everyone know how far away/closer we get to obtaining a new medal but for right now there is none.

Note: On second thoughts, I prefer or would advise you to skip all the plentiful mambo-jumbo and just proceed to download the Map Rank script instead.

Have you enable Conquer Club Map Rank in the Greasemonkey?

Note: On my 3rd thought, I think you should read through the mambo-jumbo to understand how to activate and use it.
