I can still remember... when I posted that it went:
1) USA
2) China
3) Australia
4) France
5) Russian Fed.
Bob Costas give us the count like every four hours
Good for you guys though! I wonder if GB was like 6th place and waiting for their events or something.... Does GB and France still have an olympic rivalry? Also, if you guys could take China down the USA would appreciate it....
In a list of the total medal count? I think so yeah. It wasn't a who is better than who list.Huckleberryhound wrote: What a strange medals table you all use. So, a country with 20 bronze medals, rates higher than a country with 19 Gold (a theoretical example) ?

sammy lad, she got 1 WR and 2 Golds. still brilliant though.sam_levi_11 wrote:ACTUALLY, we are third in the medal table, we have the highest ever medal count in....sumin, and a female swimmer, becky adlington i think shes called, broke two world records and got 2 golds.Juan_Bottom wrote:Our TV doesn't cover GB. that does not hide the fact that USA manipulated the table so they could assume to be top. it's alright, if it keeps the money rolling in from the sponsors and Joe public don't really get it. But since someone mentioned it, I decided to put point values on the medals. 3 for Gold, 2 for Silver, and 1 for Bronze. The points come out to this:
China: 200
USA: 200
GB: 91

Get over it. There is no "official table". There is no "official competition" to see which country can get the most of anything.DAZMCFC wrote:that does not hide the fact that USA manipulated the table so they could assume to be top. it's alright, if it keeps the money rolling in from the sponsors and Joe public don't really get it. I mean the IOC table, Beijing isn't on there so I assume they're released afterwards.Matroshka wrote:I'm guessing this is the one you are talking about, right?

Did you see the far right side? Even this one has ranking by totals.
Duh, it's not in the spirit of the Olympics to do that. But to everyone else there is a winner.Bones2484 wrote: Thus, there is no official rankings because the IOC does not recognize any.
That is fair enough, small print is not my thing.Bones2484 wrote:“ The International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not recognise global ranking per country; the medal tables are displayed for information only. Furthermore, the results that we publish are official and are taken from the "Official Report" - a document published for each Olympic Games by the Organising Committee. However, for the first Olympic Games (until Antwerp in 1920), it is difficult to give the exact number of medals awarded to some countries, due to the fact that teams were composed of athletes from different countries. The medal tables by country are based on the number of medals won, with gold medals taking priority over silver and bronze. A team victory counts as one medal. ”

I would agree. Or some sort of similar scale.strike wolf wrote:I would say that if there was a rating system the fairest would be the one mentioned earlier in this thread (I can't remember who said it) which would leave it as gold = 3 points; silver =2; and bronze =1.

It's how I do it. If there is noone from my country in the event I just cheer on for the cheer fun. Watching the 100m or 200m events was amazing. Seeing Usain Bolt in a sprint is awesome, no matter what country you're from.strike wolf wrote:Yes, truly, maybe we should just watch for the thrill of the games
