Rail GB and Rail London maps?

Post by Schwournes »

I thought maybe Rail GB and Rail London could be made, you know, in the style of the Rail Europe and Rail USA maps.
The Rail London could be quite complicated to make, but I think it would work. The Rail GB would probably be quite a lot simpler. Does this sound like a good or bad idea?

Contact the map maker if you have questions about what maps he will/might/not make, he will probably drop by here anyway :)

I think Rail U.K. would be the better one, either Piccadily Station (Manchester) would be the Hub or London, Probs London they horde everything nowadays. :x , Anyway, I think Rail UK would be great. And (as I have been trying to get for a while)

Air Europe or Air USA (Aeroplane routes) would be good

Yeah I thought the London Underground simply has way too many stations. Possibly for Rail GB Paddington could be the hub?

mmm, No, if it's GB it has to be central, that's why I suggested NW. Paris in Rail Europe is central-ish, as is Chicago, it's 2 or 3 territs from taking a continent.

And look at this

Manchester has 2 big stations. London has 3 or 4, hence harder to decide which one it should be

Oh right, that makes a lot more sense now...originally I thought Manchester was a slightly odd choice

The Underground remains one of my all-time favorite CC map ideas, but past attempts have run into copyright trouble.

I think one of the biggest copyright issues is use of the roundel...so, don't use it would seem sensible to me. I don't get how the tube map can be copyrighted but if it is just change the colours and if it is set out a bit like how Rail USA and Europe are then it isn't really like the tube map at all. I think it would be a bit complex to have the whole thing but that would be great but it would involve mega scrolling...

And the map style, because of the map that is not geographically accurate and doesn't have a scale it can't be used

Leeds is never a reasonable choice.

Hmmm... maybe the overground rail network in the style of the London Underground map might be feasible?

I think a Rail London is out of the question but Rail GB could definitely work.

I think he may have meant the existing over ground rail system- not the new London Overground (orange line on the tube map) but the suburban rail services (the sort that go from King's Cross/Finsbury Park/Moorgate etc). I suppose that would be more of a Rail Southeast map, though.

I was thinking of a Rail GB map that used the style of the Underground map... you could use similar colours etc, bt instead of being London underground stations, it would be GB overground terminals etc.

Actually both are possible.

What you really want to do is... be inspired by... the maps from the two board games - The Great Game of Britain, and The Great Game of London. Both released in the 70's, and probably both out of print... as board games are wont to do. The Great Game of Canada... not so interesting.

The London game would be far more interesting of the two maps. What is also nice is that the spacing works for a board game so it can work for us here too.

Good news I have both games in storage if anyone is interested.

As soon as I played RailUSA, I wanted to turn the London Underground into a map. Would love to work on this, assist, or stand-aside for more experienced minds - whatever the appropriate protocol is.

Working on the London Map.

As much as I enjoy both RAIL maps this will be more true to reality vs trying to pretend there is THE HUB in the tube.
