How far are names allowed to go?

Post by Kotaro »

I just played a game with someone under the username LickMyBalls... How in the world is that allowed? I know a few 14 year olds that play this game... There really should be a rule against that kind've crap.

from the mouths of babes... absolutely clueless... so sad... to the OP, there are rules regarding
user names. if you see one you don't like go to cheats and abuse and post it, and it will be looked
into. i routinely turn in abusive/racist names, and they are dealt with swiftly. as far as paradice
goes, just ignore him, everyone else does.-0

I again find myself in agreement with Owen, you have to report it.
Only after something has been brought to the attention of the brass can we expect them to act upon it.
This isn't a middle-school playground and paying members should expect a degree of decorum.

User, "LickMyBalls" would be more suited to surfing porn sites (whilst mommy pulls a few tricks to cover the orthodontist bills).

I must say i agree, there should be some kind of restriction on what usernames players are allowed to have because you have to remember this game isn't for 18+ years only, anyone can play this game no matter how young. There may even be a 4 year old playing this game somewhere....

In all seriousness though i began playing this game when i was 13, i am now 14 and things like this never bothered me and never will bother me but there are some young people who would find this sort of stuff a bit weird and possibly be scared by it as there are some really nasty names out there. For instance if a 10 year old was playing against a person with the username LickMyBalls i am sure there parents would not approve.

Guy probably thinks that dunking his balls in honey, and then having someone lick them clean, helps his game. What can you do, golfers can be weird, but I don't see why why you find his silliness to be insulting? :?

I am shocked that this has become an issue. I have been on this site for almost a year and played thousands of opponents. Many, many, users have complimented my name (most laugh at first viewing it) and I can only recall one user who ever complained to me personally, and she ended up giving me a positive feedback (please examine my feedback and you will see I have never received a single negative and am often complimented for my polite and friendly demeanor).

I just reviewed my own feedback and many of the comments go so far as to praise my name. ie. 'Played a great game and kicked ass. He also happens to have THE BEST name on the site. Be prepared, you will lick this opponent's balls!' -jazzsnob 2008-05-07 23:24:46

My name is meant in good fun and many have found enjoyment in it. This is obviously a matter of personal taste, but if you are overly sensitive to words, feel free to add me to your ignore list.

It wouldn't be a problem for anyone third grade and up, and least in America, but their Parent's, now that's a different story.

Seeing as chat isn't monitored - who cares. Honestly - besides the fact that a 14 year old is extremely sheltered if offended by "LickmyBallz," the actual point of the matter is that it's stupid to moderate such miniscule things. Is CC now going to devote more resources to moderate such insignificant areas? I'd rather them not.

After all - LickmyBallz doesn't have any obscene words, isn't racist, or singling out any particular group. Anything could be considered iffy... hell a lot of people hate bush, would a username with his name in it not be allowed? Personally I agree with Paradice's post.

you just lost all credibility with that portion of your post... and i never agreed that the name
was offensive, etc... i just stated the procedure to have a name reviewed and how it all works.
i don't think this is a discussion over if the name is truly offensive. i thought it was a thread
about how to have a name looked at... anyway, as far as offensive names go, LickMy is far from
offensive. however, if the OP was truly offended by the name, the OP has the option to have the
name reviewed. right?-0

I know you have a personal dislike for Paradice, but it doesn't require you to pick apart everyone of his posts. Whether or not you truly disagree with him (which it's quite possible you do), there's no doubt you critique his posts harder than a random person's.

Paradice wasn't responding to the OP's concern, as you were. Instead, he was merely turning the topic around, from "why is this allowed and what can I do about it," to "why shouldn't it be allowed and it's all subjective."

I remember this discussion on the offensive names: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=49467 It was resolved by the user voluntarily changing his name.

Personally, having lost virginity at 15, I am appalled by a thought that someone as young as 14 could see it

i was 14 when i lost it :?
but yeah, not everyone is that early with things, and also there are people considerably younger on here. although my bigger concern would be the parents, and not the kids themselves, since the parents are the ones wielding the credit cards and paying for premium if they think this site is alright for their child.

So, what about the following names, would they be allowed?

GigantoWang
MEGARCAWK
Mr.Balls
Eatmyballs
Suckmyballs
HitlerPenis
Hitler'sPenis
Hugh.G.Rection
Ilovewangs
SepticKnob
IshaggedyourMum
Lastnight
DrinkmySemen
Fluffykins

Are these acceptable, and if some of them are/are not, then why do you believe that is the case?

Yeesh, thank you DM and WMW for those ever so helpful responses =D>

Kotaro, if you have an issue with a name, do go and post it in the cheating and abuse forum, or PM me directly.

If a name is generally considered to be genuinely offensive, it will be changed. If a user volunteers to change their name by PMing Lackattack, then that is often done.

We don't have a G rated site, and we don't generally censor swearing, or names like lickmyballs. Yes, there may be some parents who take offense at that, but their child is playing a war game, we don't exactly cuddle bunny rabbits here.
