I had only been going out with my girlfriend for a couple of months, and I said to her "You remind me of that Princess character in Star Wars" "ohhh!", she said with a big smile "yeah" I said - "princess wookie"
She stopped smiling then. (I however burst out laughing) and whenever star was is on she stares at me and says "princess fucking wookie indeed you bastard"
a) scoundrel is sexy b) as DM points out, sort of, he was allowed to shag leia c) i hear mark hamill has been tainted by porn. Han has only been tainted by ally mcbeal. A lesser crime. Ped you're an old charmer.

(Of course Han wins, moron.)
Yes, of course, Realistic hero. You're absolutely right. A guy hurtling through the cosmos in a spaceship shaped like a hamburger that got squeezed too hard, wearing riding pants to do so, hanging out with Bigfoot and running around yelling about hydrospanners and hyperspace is totally realistic.
But all of that Jedi crap and the swords. Well, that was just completely unbelievable.

In all seriousness though, the two need each other in order to even be the characters they are.
Without Luke, Han never would have stayed to help the Rebellion. Without Han, Luke never would have been able to grow up and learn about the force to eventually become a bad ass with a green light saber.
The incest bit, well, they didn't know at first. I mean, can you really blame him? Like with Oedipus Rex. It's not like he knew going into it that he was going to bang his mom. I'm pretty sure the whole eyeball self stabby out part was related to his surprise over discovering his mom was also his wife.
So really, it's all about Wedge. Cause he just kicks ass. And by kicks ass I mean, is in all three movies for some inexplicable reason.

But without Luke's heartfelt sincerity, Han never would have had the change of heart, and decide to fly out and support Luke at the last second.
I'm telling you man, it's yin yang. Can't have one without the other. Cause of course Luke never would have gone off on spectacular spaceship adventures if Han hadn't been bumming around on Tatooine.
Why was Han there, anyway?

He owes a ton of money to the biggest gangster on tatooine and has a whole galaxy to hide in, but instead he comes back to mos eisely and hangs around in bars with an entirely conspicuous wookie in tow. Deathwish? Moron? No. He was there simply because he is a bad motherfucker.
Luke was a water farmer. In fact he was a farmhand on a water farm. There can be no gheyer job.

Quoted For Truth!
All of it, so true.
Besides, Luke is (in some cases) more interesting in the various novels.

Being a man, I would not know. But I'll agree that Han, especially in A New Hope, is much more manly. Luke as of ROTJ is almost his equal, prehaps more so because of what he had to go through in TESB.

Something that I ever get an answer too; why does everyone assume that Luke did it with Leia? She is royalty, elixed royalty, but royalty none the less and he is a peasant from an unimportant backwater.

I disagree. At the end, Han is still much more masculine.
