a) It didn't appear to be an announcement so much as a vote on another interim mapMrBenn wrote:If you haven't seen the site-wide announcement, head this wayhttp://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... =6&t=67126
Here is the deal. CC is undeniably stealing the game of Risk. This is quite possibly some sort of copy vio. They are doing what they need to to not get sued.delahoc wrote:You're not wrong there. Here's a list of things that have been changed for 'copyright' reasons that cannot be claimed under copyright:
* the map of the world
* the images of a die or dice
* the use of certain ordinary words - attack, fortify, dice, cards, etc
* the use of certain well known place names - siam, iceland, new guinea, etc

Hear hear. My sentiments exactly. Well said.ahunda wrote:I still think, the best solution for the whole mess would be to cut a deal with Hasbro and pay them royalties. Among all the rumours flying around in the diverse threads, somebody mentioned one or two gaming websites, that supposedly have such an agreement with Hasbro and can therefore safely & legally offer their members / customers to play the classic / original Risk map.
No matter, what some people don´t get tired to repeat (The game-play is the same, no matter how it looks. There are 100 other maps to play on. Yadda Yadda.), Classic is just that: The classic & original game, that most of us came here to play. It has been the heart-piece of the site, by far the most popular & most played map.
Just look at the uproar in the forum. Sure, part of it is due to the poor way the whole mess was / is handled by the site management. And sure, things will calm down with time. I am convinced however, that the site will lose members / customers, because of it:
There is a significant number of people, who exclusively plays Classic. Some of them might come to terms with a replacement map, if it is a good one. But some will certainly start looking for alternatives. In the last days, I have heard from quite a few regulars (frequent posters in the forum & cross-map-players included), that they have already started to check out other gaming websites. And I admit: I did too.
The greater impact however I expect on newcomers. Many (if not most) of those are finding CC, when searching for options to play online Risk. That´s the way, that I came here. And right now, CC just doesn´t offer that option. If I came to this site for the first time right now and wouldn´t find a classic Risk map to play, I´d certainly continue my search for alternatives.
Just my thoughts ...

That's how I feel too though I decided maybe it was time to find a chess site to play. After what must be a thousand games on the classic map, I'm so keen for one of my friends to say... "How about a game of Risk?"... but it never seems to happen.delahoc wrote:ahunda wrote:I'm among those who played the classic map almost exclusively. I can't do that here now, and it's pissing me off... All in all I'd rather be here, but not without a classic map to play.

I'm among those who played the classic map almost exclusively. I can't do that here now, and it's pissing me off. I've gone looking for alternatives and I've found a few that I'm now trying out. All in all I'd rather be here, but not without a classic map to play.
