The idea of any President being assassinated, even one like George W. Bush, with whom I have disagreed on nearly everything, is the worst possible thought relating to the Presidency I can have.

We have a system for removing those in power not fit to lead. I think this thread should be killed, and in its place, start one about whether or not Obama will be impeached.

No one is saying its a good idea, they are just discussing whether its likely to happen or not. No one wants it to happen, they just think that its possible.

Dude, just because you don't like the topic, doesn't mean that it needs to be locked. Whinging on about things that you may not like to talk about or things that you think are inappropriate and demanding that they not be discussed is childish on your part. Don't read the thread if you don't like it, but I think it is something that will likely occur, as there is still deep racism in this country. And when you put that in consideration that BO is excessively liberal, you are likely to draw the most radical opposition to take action.

Child molestation, rape and other topics are equally as disturbing as presidential assassination, but does that mean that we should not discuss them? I dare say no.

There have been attempts on every president ever elected. Most have not gotten very far.

That is the real question ... not whether there will be attempts, for there certainly will be those. The question is whether any of those attempts will come close to success. One came close to Ronald Reagan. One suceeded against JFK. It is not that unusual.

I don't believe anyone here is advocating assassination in any way. Ironically, I have the opposite take. There is not even a question here. There are ALWAYS people who want to kill the US president. If the secret service were not aware of this ... there would not be a secret service. (not to mention they would have to be blind, deaf AND completely stupid besides). If this thread concerns them, it is likely the thought that so many intelligent people might possibly NOT think there would be such an attempt at some point in Obama's presidency ... several, in fact.

The only question is how close these plots will come to success.

About that, I just say I sincerely hope they do not.... and leave it to the authorities (secret service and others) to assure that our president is protected. Yep, even Bush.

I would say that there will be at least one attempt serious enough that its thwarting will make the general news.

As for the "Fairness Doctrine" to which you referred.. I have no idea. I never read it/heard it, so have no opinion on it.
