Now try again, but this time pay attention to what people are saying, rather than to the things you wish they'd say.black elk speaks wrote:*Sees what I wrote. That is where you are wrong. I would personally rather see Black people increase their level of responsibility in this country. Too many black men fail to work for a living, and support their families. I descend from immigrants that came here to work and make a better future for their descendants. I was the first in my family to go to college. That was a decision that I made on my own... as a kid, I never thought about it.mpjh wrote:It also is because what your thoughts are racist.

If more African Americans would support their families, and not think of their children as punishments for sexual deviance, then they could break the cycle of poverty for their own people and change the dichotomy of their culture

If this were true, which I'm not saying it is, we would have no way to address this problem as to call attention to it would bring on chides of racism.Dancing Mustard wrote:Aaand there it is. Or alternatively, in cases like this one, it's like pointing out that somebody doesn't like black people and holds large numbers of unfounded, baseless, derogatory prejudices against them.GabonX wrote:Calling someone a racist today is like calling someone a communist in the McCarthy era. sure enough. And the symptomatic ideological disease of people like mpjh, mustard and snorri (to name a few) is that they can't even express why they conclude racism on my part, or their support for socialism for that matter. In the case of socialism, they just accept it because it is easier, and in the case of racism, they have nothing better to say, no ideas to identify racism, nor any ideas on the topic whatsoever. One is left to wonder why they bother to post anything at all if they aren't going to lend something of substance to the dialog.GabonX wrote:If this were true, which I'm not saying it is, we would have no way to address this problem as to call attention to it would bring on chides of racism.Dancing Mustard wrote:Aaand there it is. Nope, when someone is a racists, he should be called out. Most racism is based in ignorance. It is the use of stereotypical images of a people to place them in an inferior position and maintain dominance. BES makes himself feel better by believing that he is better than the stereotype of an African-American as he sees them. Unfortunately for BES, Obama busted his stereotype, and BES is having a hard time adjusting to that, simply because he is a racist.GabonX wrote:If this were true, which I'm not saying it is, we would have no way to address this problem as to call attention to it would bring on chides of racism.Dancing Mustard wrote:Aaand there it is. Unless of course he's right, in which case you would be doing a disservice to him as you are improperly discrediting him on false grounds, the black community as this kind of talk would be blocking any real progress for them, and indeed society as a whole as we are all connected.Dancing Mustard wrote:Or alternatively, in cases like this one, it's like pointing out that somebody doesn't like black people and holds large numbers of unfounded, baseless, derogatory prejudices against them.GabonX wrote:Calling someone a racist today is like calling someone a communist in the McCarthy era. So if someone is a racist but they have other valid ideas, that person should be black listed and none of their ideas should be given credence. Tell me, does this apply to people of all races or primarily to white people?mpjh wrote:Nope, when someone is a racists, he should be called out. Most racism is based in ignorance. Yes, but that's assuming that his statement "Too many black men fail to work for a living, and support their families..." wasn't baseless. What do you think of me saying "Too many white men fail to work for a living, and support their families..."? Sounds like a load of bullshit coming from ignorance, huh?GabonX wrote:Unless of course he's right, in which case you would be doing a disservice to him as you are improperly discrediting him on false grounds, the black community as this kind of talk would be blocking any real progress for them, and indeed society as a whole as we are all connected.Dancing Mustard wrote:Or alternatively, in cases like this one, it's like pointing out that somebody doesn't like black people and holds large numbers of unfounded, baseless, derogatory prejudices against them.GabonX wrote:Calling someone a racist today is like calling someone a communist in the McCarthy era. Atleast one of these two things, that BES is a racist with unfounded baseless dergatory prejudices, or that there are internal problems in the black, community is true. We don't have enough information here to make a judgement about BES as we don't know him personally. We could have a critical discussion about black society in America and whether or not there are internal problems but I doubt that we would be able to do it without someone, likely you, trying to derail the conversation.
I think you are making some assumptions here that are false. first, there is a disproportionate number of fatherless black youth in america. That tells me that they are abandoned by their fathers due to a lack of responsibility. This fails to instill a level of responsibility in the minds of children. Based on your comments regarding the same scenario for whites, I wholly agree. TOO MANY people abandon their families. Its a sad statistic whatever your race. It just so happens that we are talking about black americans in this thread and why they voted for BO. Which leads to my thoughts on socialism.F1fth wrote:Yes, but that's assuming that his statement "Too many black men fail to work for a living, and support their families..." wasn't baseless. What it comes down to every time (this was what DM was saying about a straw man argument) is that every time BES mentions socialism, he describes it as stealing money from the hardworking rich and giving it to the lazy poor. Firstly, that is not an accurate portrayal of socialism, nor is it what BO or any of the posters in this thread are advocating whatsoever. It's just an oversimplification of a misunderstanding. Secondly, the fact is that a lot of the rich aren't as hardworking as BES likes to believe (The Rockefeller family earned their money, right?) and a lot of the poor aren't as lazy either. It would be true if the amount of hard work you do equaled how much money you get, but that's not how it works. The more money you have, the easier it is to make money. A lot of the poor work their asses off their whole life just to get by, and they barely do at that because a capitalist system doesn't give a shit about them. People like BES think they're lazy and figure they're leeching off society. What ends up happened because of an ideology like that is the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. That's my take on it at least.
