"GG" pet peeve

Post by kmhebert »

Heh time for a little rant. First off I hate the "GG/gg" chat message. Is it so hard to write out, "good game"? Now that that is out of the way I would like to get to the meat of my peeve. Premature GG! Yeah you are going to win, why are you rubbing it in my face? The game isn't over yet! You are undermining your own estimation of the game as "good" by taking my loss for granted. You are adding insult to the injury. What's the rush? Do you have someplace to be? They game is not over yet! Stop the victory lap jerk! The only slight enjoyment from the premature GG is when they get bad dice or a string of bad luck and you come all the way back and beat them. THAT is great. Suck on THAT!

That is great. But in truth, why do people jump the gun on that, and doesn't it piss you off, everyone? Thank you.

gg is okay but gl is potentially annoying when the opponent gets first move and waits till AFTER he gets great dice to say good luck. That ticks me off...

saying "gg", and not "good game" stems from YEARS UPON YEARS of gaming history. Gamers are lazy. Get over it. The whole lingo of leet speak, and gaming typing shortcuts really do stem from not having time to type stuff out. This was before voice communication became common place in most professional gaming arenas. Ever play the old FPS games of yore? Like quake, and unreal tournament? Fast paced games means that if you stop, you die. So hitting space, or C to bring up chat, then sitting there typing your message that takes 10-20 seconds, when you could abbreviate it to 1-2 secs means it's going to save you a frag.

I think you should get off your high horse, and be less of a jerk about it.

Let people type the way they want, since you know what it means, do your thing and let others do their thing.

Hmmm....I find it more irritating when someone kills me and says nothing...THAT pisses me off.

Speaking of chat peeves, my biggest is the ceremonial wishiing of "Good Luck"...what a crock of shite! lol You really want me to have good luck?? I do NOT believe it :D

Whenever I say gg or GG before the game is over, I do it so the other player has a chance to read it on their last turn. Many people don't return to games the have lost to see if there are more chat comments.

I generally say good game, win or lose, before the final turn, so the other guy can read it. I rarely ever click back in a game once I've been bounced, most of the time, I don't remember a game once I'm not in it anymore.

my pet peeve is people missing their turn. or taking their turn during the last 30 seconds. or starting their turn right away, and not finishing it until they have about 10 sec is left. there should be a MAJOR penalty for people missing their turn in the middle of the game, if they miss it at the beginning ... fine, they left. but in the middle it should be an automatic -100 points. no discussion.

Yes good point. no harm ever came from congratulating someone on a well played game or in the offering of well wishes.

I usually type "I thoroughly enjoyed playing this online multiplayer game with you. It was a valuable experience and one I will treasure for the rest of my life. I apologize for slipping past you/offering a disappointing challenge to you. May the rest of your games be full of intensity and love."

You seem to think that only someone who is winning will say "good game?" Absolutely Not true.
If the game was well played, there was no heavy griping, etc. (i.e. if it really was a good game) will always say "gg" or "good game" (just depends on my mood) and/or "thank you" if think the game MIGHT .. and only MIGHT be nearing the end, regardless of who I think might or might not be winning. Why? Because most people don't bother to check chat after a game is over and I want to be sure to thank the other player, show manners.

As was said before .. GET OVER IT! And remember that with 20,000 active players, not everybody has the same ideas you do ... that is why manners matter. They are "rules" we fall back upon so we are not accidentally misunderstood.

gg, GG, good luck, or what ever, it is just a polite way of saying thanx for the game. How they say it, or when they say it, is of no consequence. So long as they say something, I am satisfied.
I believe that your bitterness is from sour grapes.

I'm going to copy this in my signature and paste every time in the games I play :-D

Can you also give the wordings to write to someone you play with whom you have intense dislike with such ferocity that if he/she is in front of you, you will smack their face and you think he/she is complete a$$ as well, please? :)
