For other time zones, and to check I've got this right, please visit: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/
Players need to be certain to be available for the full period to sign-up. Please also read all the details before committing yourself to joining.
All arrangements are designed to maximise the probability of the tournament working. Hence the choice of Doodle Earth, Sequential (to attract players), 16-players, Escalating, Adjacent and Fog of War (both to reduce the probability of build-up). Effectively this will be a pilot tournament. If it works, we may be on for more tournaments, and arouse the interest of other tournament organisers.
As many reserves as possible will be recruited. If a player has failed to turn-up ten minutes after the match start time, a mass PM will be sent to the reserve list with game no. and password. It will then be a case of first-come, first-served for the reserves. Players knocked-out will become a second reserve list.

The tournament will be a simple knock-out.

'Awkward Numbers' Plans
If we have 31 players then we use Plan A with one match in the first round having one fewer players. The match with a player less is determined by the first relevant digit drawn in the previous week’s UK National Lottery Dream Numbers draw (http://www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/p/results/resultsHistory/resultsHistoryAction.do?drawTypeID=9). In the unlikely event that that draw doesn’t yield a relevant number (e.g. the numbers drawn are 9,8,9,7,9,7) then the draw from the week before that will be drawn, and so on …
If we have 29,28,27 or 26 players then we revert to Plan C (25 players), with groups having extra players (again which groups will be determined by the lottery Dream Numbers).
If we have 23, 22, 21 or 19 players then we revert to Plan E (20 players), with groups having extra (or one fewer) player (again which groups will be determined by the lottery Dream Numbers).
If we have 17 players then we revert to Plan G (16 players), with one match having one fewer player.
If we have 13 or 14 then we revert to Plan I (12 players), with some matches having one extra player.
4Game Options
Matches will be Speed, Terminator, Sequential, Escalating, Adjacent Reinforcements and Fog of War.
Players
There will be between 8 and 32 players.
Players must be Premium (as it is Speed).
Players must have a 97% attendance record, have played a minimum 50 games, and not have dropped out from one of my tournaments previously!
Players have until 10 minutes after the match PM is sent to them to join their games from when the PM is sent. Failure to do so will result in a reserve being sought. Players also have to register at least 20 minutes before the tournament starts by sending a PM to the Tournmnet Organiser.
Winners of each match should PM the Tournament Organiser with details of winner, 2nd place, and no.of terminations and rounds survived for these two players.
Reserves
All reserves will be sent a PM when an opening occurs. The first reserve to respond will gain a place.
After each round players knocked-out will join a second reserve list. As above, a PM will be sent to this list.
The Timetable
Friday 30th January
The day before the tournament, seedings will be worked-out, according to CC rank and points total.
Saturday 31st January 1:00pm to 2:30pm GMT
Before registration deadline, additional players will be recruited from live speed games. They will either make numbers up or be reserves.
Saturday 31st January up to 2:40pm GMT
Registration – players must send a PM to the Tournament Organiser at least 20 minutes before the tournament start time or they are not in.
Saturday 31st January 2:40pm GMT
The structure of the tournament (from Plan A to L) will then be selected, according to the number of players registered. If one or two players are needed to make the numbers up for one of the plans, then players recruited from the speed games will be used for this.
If sufficient players from the live speed player list haven’t declared their interest to enter then we will revert to the ‘awkward numbers’ plan (see below). Usually, this means one of the groups will have one player less. The group with the player less (and therefore easier qualification) will be determined by the previous week’s UK national lottery ‘dream numbers’ draw (see ‘awkward numbers’ plan below for details)
Saturday 31st January 2:45pm GMT
Players will then be placed into groups in seed order. The first player in group 1 will be seed 1, first player in group 2 will be seed 2 etc. If there are 4 groups then the 2nd player in group 1 will be seed 5 etc. As time is short, new recruits from the live speed list will be assigned the lowest seedings.
Saturday 31st January 2:50pm GMT
Players will then be sent a PM to join their game when this has all been worked-out, probably 5-10 minutes before start time.
Players will have 10 minutes to join their games.
Saturday 31st January 3:00pm GMT
If they haven’t joined within the 10 minutes then a reserve will be recruited from the live speed player list. If there are no takers from live speed games after 5 minutes then the game will be reset with one player less.
In the event of a major catastrophe or aliens making contact, creating a huge delay, then the tournament will revert to the 3-match ‘emergency’ plan (each plan has an emergency version – see below).
Joining Games
Players will be informed when they have a game and will until 10 minutes after the PM is sent to join. If they fail to do so then they will be ejected from the tournament and a reserve will replace them.
All players need to register on the day by sending a PM to the Tournament Organiser at least 20 minutes before the start of the tournament. Failure to register will result in a a reserve replacing them.
Winning Games
Winners of each game are expected to PM the Tournament Organiser the name of the winner and runner-up and no.of terminations and rounds survived for these two players.
Build-Up Games
If games are not concluded within 50 minutes of the kick-off time, players positions (no. of territories) at the end of the preceeding round will determine who progresses. If two players have equal number of territories then their positions at the end of each previous round will be compared.
