Kansas State continues their success against ranked teams with a home W against Iowa State. According to K State Coach Lincecum, "This being Iowa State's first visit to our home court in the Galapagos Islands, we expected them to be intimidated by our home fans, especially the fearsome low brass section of our pep band. Iowa State showed no fear however, and fought well...we were lucky to find a way to exploit their defense early and rode that to the W."

Finally a newsletter update...Villanova is playing big...Villanova and Rhode Island are the only two teams still unbeaten in league...both at 9-0 in their respective divisions.

Ohio State defeats Indiana in a close seasaw battle.

In their first game after the holiday break Vermont defeats St. Joes at home in 8 rounds (3932590). Asked for comment after the game, Coach Plash Ricrem noted that he thought his team came out a bit sluggish (unable to gain a card in round 1) but after a couple of minutes (rounds) were able to turn things up a notch (pick up a +2 bonus). "Our hot 3 point shooting (4 card mixed set to a red set for Joes) really helped today. It was good to start the new year with a W." The win pushes Vermont's in conference record to 6-3 but when asked about Rhode Island's unbeaten 9-0 mark, Ricrem had this to say, "I'm not quite sure what we're going to do about that. I mean they really are quite a team. They're ranked what? Like 3 in the nation? It still bugs me we weren't able to finish the job against them a few weeks ago, but we can't focus on them, we have to focus on what we can do in conference."

Ohio State wins 4th Striaght

Ohio State gets it's 4th staight win by convincingly beating Purdue in a 6 round win. With wins over Purdue, Indiana, Michigan, and conference leader Michigan State in the last 3 weeks, they continue to make their surge to bring home the conference championship.

Buckeye's head coach stated, " We just need to continue to play our game, Defense! If we do, then we will bring the fans another big ten championship."

Also: Last year we did a bracketology segment late in the season to give people an idea of where they stood. I will bring that back at the conclusion of this week's games and will run three installments of it before making the final "official" selections at the end of the conference tourneys.

For those that know what bracketology is, hurray for you, for the others I'll explain it more when I make that first installment next Monday.

Also had to say Whooopeee!!! for my real Vikings, who are now 3-0 in the Big Sky after beating Northern Arizona on the road in four overtimes tonight...the longest game in school history and we trailed all the way until the final seconds of regulation...a wild one

Vermont gets smoked on the road in OOC play, dropping to UNC in 5 rounds (3956154). Coach Ricrem noted that he was disappointed with his team's inability to make open shots (easy attacks like a critical 7-5 one late in the game) and was confused early on by UNC's zone defense (Map layout). "Gotta hand it to UNC, they knew how to finish strong (9 army deployment + mixed set). They emphatically shut the door in this one. The only somewhat redeeming factor of the game is that it was an OOC one, so we can get back to focusing on our conference games this week including our rematch on the road against Xavier, which is sure to be a good one!"
