European Speed League Season 1 - Complete - Winner DJ Teflon

Post by Teflon Kris »

Recruiting for next season.

We have completed our first season, with 12 players playing 3-and-4-player matches. We are hoping to expand and have started knock-out speed tournaments (http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 85&start=0).

Feel free to sign up for next season (follow the link in my signature below).

Matches were generally Fridays, 10PM GMT, with some flexibility. Players were able to have 'weeks off' and some matches at other times were arranged between players.

Look out for other speed tournaments in the 'Join A Tournament' forum.

League Cup:
Spoiler
Click here for details: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 85&start=0

The tournament was won by Sun Tzup.

How It Works / Rules:
Spoiler
Premium players as its 'speed' and players need to set-up games.

Matches take place at 9pm or 10pm GMT on Fridays - the league is therefore mostly european players.

The league requires individuals who can regularly play on a friday, committed and willing to set-up games. The idea is that the league runs itself and I just set-up fixtures and do the league table and people dont rely on me to sent millions of PMs! Therefore players joining should have played a minimum of 50 games, have 97% attendance and not be a drop-out or deadbeat from the league or a tournament run by myself,

Each week several players will be at 'home'. Everyone will play everyone else twice and host 1/3 of the games they play. In a 9-player league, you play 12 games, hosting 4. With an 11-player league, you play 15 games, hosting 5.

Points system - win = 5 pts, 2nd = 2pts (3rd = 0 pts).

All players are PM'd by the league (me) with fixtures early in the week. At this time the fixtures and table are updated on this thread.

Fixtures will be set for each week but players can decide amongst themselves to play extra league games, as long as it is pre-agreed to be a league game, and it hasn't already been played (see fixture grid).

'Home' players set-up a private (labelled) game and PM the other league members to join (ten minutes before kick-off) - with the password of course. 'Home' players determine conditions - all games are sequential, and of course, speed, but home players may decide they want Standard or Terminator and can choose the spoils, redeployment and fog conditions.

Players always have the same 'home' map - this should be a geographical map relevant to where they are from (e.g. UK map / Europe map / WWII Western / Eastern Front map) - complex, Feudal War style maps not allowed (neither is World 2.1 as the games could take hours).

'Home' players should PM the league (me) the match result (winner, runner-up).

Players dont have to play every week, everyone can miss some weeks as the games will be set-up to cover 2/3 of the membership (e.g. if there are 9 players in the league, there will be 2 x 3-player games each week). The league should be concluded within 18 weeks, therefore each player can have a maximum of 6 weeks 'off'.

Players who cannot play on a particular week must PM the league at least 36 hours in advance.

Miss a game (without informing the League that you cant play in advance) and you lose 3 points! This includes additional games which are arranged amongst players. The game will be re-scheduled for a later date.

If a player fails to show, the other 2 players can PM the rest of the league to see if anyone else is on-line and an alternatve fixture can therefore be played (in which case the missing player would still lose 3 points).

Any dodginess (e.g. 'farming tactics' - using an illegal map etc.) and the game will be declared void and the offending player will lose 5 points! The game will be re-scheduled for a later date.

If a player drops out (e.g. misses 3 fixtures without warning the league) then either a reserve takes over their position or all games they were involved in are declared void.
Map Selection:
Spoiler
Players must select a map when they sign-up. This is their map choice for the full league season (except for the play-off final - see below). A different map can be selected for the cup - again, this is for the full tournament.

Maps must be geographical and relevant, in some way, to either the player's nationality/home nation or the continent of Europe. This is to prevent 'farming' and to maintain the league's European theme.

The following are example maps that players may choose:

Iberia
France
Germany
Scotland
Netherlands
Italy
Iceland
Luxembourg
British Isles
Ireland
Malta
BeNeLux
USSR
Ancient Greece
WWII Western Front
WWII Eastern Front
Imperium Romanium
Mongol Empire
Middle East
Alexander's Empire
Europe
Europa
New World
Canada (for N American players only)
American Civil War (for N American players only)
Great Lakes (for N American players only)
North America (for N American players only)

The above are a long list of examples, possibly not all of the possible maps. They show the most complex maps allowed (e.g. New World). Waterloo, and Rail Europe, for example, are too complex and not allowed. Neither are World 2.0, Doodle Earth or Extreme Global Warming as they stray from the European/Home Nation theme. City maps (e.g. Charleston, NYC) also stray from the theme.

Feel free to PM any other map suggestions to the League Organiser.
Play-Offs - Details:
Spoiler
When fixtures are complete then the players at the top of the league will play play-off games to determine the winner.

If , before the play-offs, there is a tie on between 1st and 2nd then the place with least 'no shows' is declared 1st. If players are still equal then a 1-v-1 speed game (on a neutral map - Europe, casual, escalating spoils) determines the winner. Similarly, 4th position will be determined by 'no shows' or a play-off if necessary.

The play-off proper will involve two stages - in the first stage, players finishing 2nd, 3rd & 4th. will play one game (on a neutral map - Europe) and one player will then be eliminated - the other players will progress to the 'final' with the league leader.

The final stage will be on the league leader's chosen map and settings (this could be a change of map to the rest of the season if desired).

The winner will be the League Champion.
