XBox360 vs. PS3

Post by Iz Man »

I'll jump on the "this vs. that" bandwagon with this question.

I'm sure its been asked before here in this fine forum; but I don't have the inclination to go searching for it.

I'm looking at purchasing a next-gen console, and while I seem to be leaning towards one, I'd like to get your opinion on which is better.

Graphics, games, accessories, ease to use, etc.

Cheers !

360 ftw, WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

anyways, I would provide a link showing how the 360 kicks the ps3's @$$ but I couldn't find one that wasn't about graphics (as the ps3 wins that battle) or needed a membership to see

I have an xbox and frankly don't see why anyne would buy a ps3 besides the graphics
I think this way mainly because everything else besides the graphics, price (360 wins), and online play (360 wins also) are the same between the two consoles

Well it depands on you. Xbox360 has the most games out, and has an assortment of exclusive franchises. PS3 has better graphics but there arn't that many games for it. Xbox has a superior online system and many good games, PS3 has intense graphics and wifi.

I would say the 360, as graphics do not make a game good. Great online play, several highly rated games and game series, and not as expensive as the PS3.

Seconded.

Owning an XBox makes you a dirty communist bastard who hates freedom and pays obscenely huge amounts of money to CEOs even when they fail at their job, and owning a PS3 makes you an unpatriotic dirty bastard who hates freedom and pays obscenely huge amounts of money to CEOs even when they fail at their job.

You could of course also get a computer, though not a mac because that would make you a... well, I think you get the general idea of what that would make you.

I can hardly see any difference in graphics between the dreamcast/ps2/gamecube era and this one. I like 360 more because it has more individual games I like and a better price.

I don't own either.

I have to disagree with you on that one, I played COD3 on the PS2 a while ago (my 360 bust, but since I got it mended for free with a premium boost thrown in I still think its best) and I could barely recognise it it was so clunky.

But I have to say 360 has to be the best console out. Despite it being made at first so it melted itself like mine did. The difference in graphics between 360 and PS3 is minimal, the difference in gameplay is sizeable.

The only game I actually miss on the 360 is Gran Turismo, but apart from that it has all the good exclusives.

Although it's been improving quite a bit as of late, the PS3 had a miserable first two years. You've got to give it to the 360, there's so many great games on it.

For the last two years, the 360 would have been your answer.
This year however, it must be the PS3.

Graphics:
Good graphics don't necessarily make a good game. The PS3 has the most potential, but it hasn't been realised yet, so the jury's out.

Games:
Depends on your taste. 360 goes for the hardcore crowd while the PS3 has some of everything.

Accessories:
PS3, maybe. Depends again on what you're looking for.

Ease to Use:
Meh. Same?

Wii

I have a wii, not a 360 or ps3 but I would suggest a ps3, the price is more yes but you get a blue-ray player for 100$. The graphics are better, and the quality of the machine is better. Everybody that I know has had their 360broken but nobody has had their ps3 break, and I know a fair amount of guys with both machines as my hich school has 2500kids. Like stated above the only games the 360 really has that the ps3 doesn't is real hard core games mainly shooters such as gears, bio-shock, etc. but then again ps3 has mgs4, resistance, killzone2 etc. Yes 360 has a better online than ps3 but ps3 is catching up, I've played online on both, with games such as resistance 2 which I have no problem finding a match, even 60player matches and I have played cod4+5 online with both consoles and the game play is not much different, I have no problem finding players on either, sure there may be more available on 360 but honestly in reality it doesn't matter, I don't notice. In my opinion it really comes down to whether you want the blue-ray player, if there is a game on one console but not the other, or which one more of your friends own.

Depends. The 360 has price, ease of use (I prefer the XBox controller over the PlayStation one) and amount of games. However, the PS3 has better graphics, is a blueray player (a big plus) and has a lot of potential to be a truly great console. Trust that over some of the fanboys you've seen, as I'm an unbiased PC gamer.

The Wii has the price, make no mistake about that.

Ya, and the PS3 has "Little Big Planet", but that doesn't mean it's not for the more hardcore gamer crowd as apposed the the casual/kiddy crowd.

As much potential as the Wii had, and I'm saying this as someone that has owned every generation of Nintendo systems, I have to say that it has been a huge disappointment. Rather than incorporating the versatility of motion detectors into gaming as we already know it (Metroid Prime 3 being a good example) or breaking new ground given options beyond joysticks and buttons, Nintendo has decided to capitalize by making a shit ton of glorified minigames. Ugh. If I wanted that I'd just find a flash game on the internet. It's not like they haven't had good games, it's just that outside of the standard, can't fail franchises I haven't been getting very much use out of it. It's a good thing the PC was around to pick up the slack.

Combine that with some serious lack of power and you haven't got a very good console... Just one that has a bunch of potential that remains untapped, and at this point, is doubtful that it ever will be. And you can't play potential.
