I am convinced that most of the people who try out (the ones who can't sing to save their lives) have severe mental disorders. I sing better than half of those trying out and I know I wouldn't make it and wouldn't even embarrass myself by trying out. Yet these people do.... and expect to actually hear "yes" from Simon, Paula and Randy. Give me a break. :roll:

It's a charade. I can think of two possibilities that these people are on the show.

1) They crave attention and want to get aired on TV.

or

2) The entire thing is setup, from the actual person to the song they sing to the judges response. It's all predetermined.

Or perhaps just slightly setup...

They should all be charged with disturbing the public order, and I DO mean ALL, from the candidates to whoever gave it the green light. American Idol and all the spin-offs in various other countries is the worst thing since they put 12 people in one house and locked the door. ok it's even worse than that, the only problem with locking those people away was that they installed cameras and showed it on TV and eventually tried to reintegrate them into society... so, AI&spinoffs is the worst thing EVER on TV.

Basically the reason you only see freaks and talented people is because thats what makes good TV. Simon and the two other judges don't see everyone who tries out. It probably is something like this:

3% Genuine talent
75% OK but nothing special (the people who think they might have a chance but are unlucky)
20% Genuinely pretty rubbish but not funny
2% Freaks / Deranged people

Only the freaks and the genuine talents get through to the TV judges, and not all the genuine talents will get shown so it looks like a ridiculous amount of freaky people apply. In reality its probably no more than any other big international show. In my opinion its sadistic. I know the process becuase I have a friend who worked on the UK version and she said they basically are giving the freaky people false hope then beating them down to make good television. Its horrible.
