Speed Assassin I
Eastern Special Agent
As a special agent of an emerging eastern super-power you have been given two espionnage targets to eliminate in order to reduce threats upon your political manoevres. Your first target is believed to have last been seen in Alexandria, Egypt whilst your second target is known to have boarded a plane to China. You will of course be fully briefed about your targets and their entourages.
This tournament was won by GreenBaize. Congratulations!
Overview
This is a one-day tournament will run in a very similar fashion to the successful Speed Terminator I & Speed Terminator II Tournaments.
It will start one hour later than the last tournament (Speed Terminator II).
It will be just two rounds and therefore not very time consuming.
To ensure the tournament runs, there are a series of back-up plans in case players fail to show (please see previous tournaments for examples). However many players we have (every number between 16 and 25), there will be a plan ready.
To enter, check all details, especially the time. Then post a reply to this thread, then send me a PM on the day of the tournament, at least 20 minutes before the start time (I will send reminders during the week before).
Ideally, there will be 20 players as per the following diagram:

Matches at 7:00pm (1st Round) then 8:00pm (Final) GMT.
Matches at 11.00am (1st Round) then 12.00pm (Final) Los Angeles.
Some Other Time Zones:New York - Matches at 2:00pm (1st Round) then 3:00pm (Final)
Western Europe - Matches at 8:00pm (1st Round) then 9:00pm (Final)
Athens - Matches at 8:00pm (1st Round) then 9:00pm (Final)
Moscow - Matches at 9:00pm (1st Round) then 10:00pm (Final)
Sydney - Matches at 6:00am (1st Round) then 7:00am (Final) (Sun 10 May)
For other time zones, and to check I've got this right, please visit: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/
Players need to be certain to be available to sign-up. Please also read all the details before committing yourself to joining.
All arrangements are designed to maximise the probability of the tournament working. Hence the choice of relatively small maps (Egypt:Lower and Greater China), Sequential (to attract players), Small number of Players, Escalating, Adjacent and Fog of War (both to reduce the probability of build-up). Effectively this will be a pilot tournament. If it works, we may be on for more tournaments, and arouse the interest of other tournament organisers.
As many reserves as possible will be recruited. If a player has failed to turn-up five minutes after the match start time, a mass PM will be sent to the reserve list with game no. and password. It will then be a case of first-come, first-served for the reserves. Players knocked-out will become a second reserve list.
Game Options
Matches will be Speed, Assassin, Sequential, Escalating, Adjacent Reinforcements and Fog of War. The first mission will be on the Egypt:Lower map and the final will be on the Greater China map.
Players
There will be between 16 and 24 players.
Players must be Premium (as it is Speed).
Players must have a 97% attendance record, have played a minimum 50 games, and not have dropped out from one of my tournaments previously!
Players have until 5 minutes after the match PM is sent to them to join their games from when the PM is sent (10 minutes for the first round). Failure to do so will result in a reserve being sought. Players also have to register at least 20 minutes before the tournament starts by sending a PM to the Tournment Organiser.
Winners of each match should PM the Tournament Organiser.
Reserves
All reserves will be sent a PM when an opening occurs. The first reserve to respond will gain a place.
The Timetable
Friday 8th May
The day before the tournament, players will be put into groups by random.org.
Saturday 9th May 6:00pm to 6:30pm GMT
Before registration deadline, additional players will be recruited from live speed games. They will either make numbers up or be reserves.
Saturday 9th May up to 6:40pm GMT
Registration – players must send a PM to the Tournament Organiser at least 20 minutes before the tournament start time or they are not in.
Saturday 9th May 6:40pm GMT
The structure of the tournament (from Plan A to L) will then be selected, according to the number of players registered. If one or two players are needed to make the numbers up for one of the plans, then players recruited from the speed games will be used for this.
Saturday 9th May 6:45pm GMT
Players will then be placed into groups in seed order. The first player in group 1 will be seed 1, first player in group 2 will be seed 2 etc. If there are 4 groups then the 2nd player in group 1 will be seed 5 etc. As time is short, new recruits from the live speed list will be assigned the lowest seedings.
Saturday 9th May 6:50pm GMT
Players will then be sent a PM to join their game when this has all been worked-out, probably 5-10 minutes before start time.
Players will have 10 minutes to join their games.
Saturday 9th May 7:00pm GMT
If they haven’t joined within the 10 minutes then a reserve will be recruited from the live speed player list. If there are no takers from live speed games after 5 minutes then the game will be reset with one player less.
In the event of a major catastrophe or aliens making contact, creating a huge delay, then the tournament will revert to the 3-match ‘emergency’ plan (each plan has an emergency version – see below).
Joining Games
Players will be informed when they have a game and will until 5 minutes after the PM is sent to join (10 minutes for the first round). If they fail to do so then they will be ejected from the tournament and a reserve will replace them.
All players need to register on the day by sending a PM to the Tournament Organiser at least 20 minutes before the start of the tournament. Failure to register will result in a a reserve replacing them.
Winning Games
Winners of each game are expected to PM the Tournament Organiser.
Partnerships / Regular opponents
Players must inform the tournament organiser if they have a regular partner or opponent that is also featuring in the tournament. The organizer can then ensure these players do not play together to avoid any potential claims of foul play by other players.
If reports of suspected foul play are made and the players in question have not declared that they are regular partners / opponents then they will be both be ejected from the tournament without question or the need for irrefutable evidence.
