All about winning?

Do you guys play CC to win? Or do you glean enjoyment from means other than sweeping the board?

Don't get me wrong, tipping your opponents over like dominoes is an excellent pastime, but you can't always be the big dog in a given situation.

For me, especially with the disjointed order of turns and games due to the length of time between them, I see every turn as a problem that needs to be solved, to try and figure out the best application of force at that exact moment. I feel rewarded when it pays off, but despair not when it's fruitless.

Then there's the thorn in the lion's paw, just screwing with the guy who thinks he's got the game under control. Some of my tactics may be perceived as suicidal, but that's only if you subsribe to the belief that winning is everything.

Of course, the ultimate goal is to win. However, good conversation can also make a game enjoyable, win or lose. Also, great competition where everyone is actually working for that win (which means everyone keeps ganging up on the board leader, even as it changes) can make a game enjoyable, win or lose.

I was never one to be big on rank, or how many points I have or anything like that. That said, though, Since I made it to Officer, the game in general has become more fun... for me at least. Not because I'm winning more games, but since I'm no longer a striper, I think I am taken more seriously in the games I play. I also think there is an unfortunate tendency for players in the upper tier (officers) to beat up on those who can take away the most points from them (stripers).

Admittedly, I have been guilty of this myself once or twice, but for the most part, when I make a kill it's for a valid reason (like getting cards) regardless of the rank. I gotta tell you though, it is very satisfying to see someone change from a star to a bird after you've handed him his ass on a plate

Fair warning: if you do NOT speak to me in a game, I will tag you "Silent" and rate you a 2 for Attitude. Make even a token effort to converse, and you will earn no tag, and at least a 3 for Attitude. If writing English is a problem for you, just say so. Giving it a try is the right Attitude in my book. In fact, if you were struggling to overcome language difficulties, I would be inclined to rate your Attitude even higher. [Sidenote: I base all my ratings from 3 (Average) and adjust from there. I have had a few opponents who were quite disappointed that I don't follow the all-too-common-but-not-in-the-Instructions convention of giving 5's unless there is something to complain about.]

I look at the game as if we were all playing around a real table. Wouldn't you chat a bit about how the game was going in that situation?

As far as winning goes, I like it as much as the next person, but I understand that there are many players more experienced and skilled than I, and that luck plays a part in the game, so unless I want to spend a lot of less than pleasant time here, I try to enjoy even the games that I don't win.

Hell no!

The best fun comes from a bit of RP or simply just making statment about your ideas on the game as it progresses, everybody who takes the time to read it or respond will feel a tad enriched by the bantar, whatever it is so long as it isn't offense intended.

What has spoilt a couple of games for me are participants who do nothing in the games first few turns. Because it's not all that fun when you have to go through them, to carve out a little nation for yourself.

Being suicidal in a game could be acceptable at times, especially when you play against someone who has the overwhelming lead in a game.

OR, some asshole who hides throughout the game to get a latter advantage.
