I am sure this has been suggested, and some tried or copy write messed it up. But why is there no Middle earth, what is the story, I suppose that this is in another thread, but I am sorry I can't find it.

Thanks for anything you can tell me about it.

i am not sure if it as been tried before, but there would be many copy-write issues.
Someone could try to make something like it, but they would have to make it a little different and a different name.

We DID have a Middle Earth. It was removed because of copyright concerns and replaced with Centerscape, which has very recently been revamped to Midgard. You've got your Middle Earth, it just doesn't have Eriador and Gondor on it.

The original Middle Earth map was removed due to potential copyright conflicts. It was originally replaced with the Centerscape map which was very similar to the current Classic Shapes map. However, since the replacement was made the map has been beautifully revamped into its current form known as Midgard.

Meh, one doesn't have to play a map or post in the forums to know that something was there, or even read about it. He coulda clicked the announcement link on the homepage and read the RJ/WM interview.

There will always be people suggesting a LOTR / Middle Earth / Tolkien map, and there are genuine reasons that people won't know that we used to have one. There's no reason to lock the thread down, as it provides a nice home for all on-topic discussion, even though I'm fairly certain that bumping the thread will not achieve much.

sailor, if we get off topic we'll always have people deserving of the award in question to pull us back on topic! in fact, i think in that way they would be contributing to both topics as they would be nominating themselves as well

for clarification's sake, i really am just getting a laugh out of all the people who keep posting here. And i agree with Mr. Benn, btw, if this thread isn't here ppl will keep making their own. However, if you were to sticky this and lock it, people would know it's here and ask, "why is it locked?" then they'd actually read the thread. that's my thought.

IF this happens - for those of you asking why this thread should be [or is] locked, WE HAD A LOTR MAP AND HAD TO TAKE IT DOWN BECAUSE OF COPYRIGHT. this thread is not a suggestion, it is a trash can because people keep suggesting an idea which is, no matter how brilliant, impossible. My condolences for the dead idea, but stop trying to resuscitate it.
