I liken any "all powerful" governments to Hitler. Its oppressive. Its aggressive. I thought all the world thought that the US was overtly dominating. Where have you been the last 10 years exactly?
I didn't hear you bitching when Bush was using illegal wiretaps to spy on Americans. The Republicans used the government to their own personal ends. Now that they aren't in power, you're bitching about "big government". Obama hasn't even been president for 6 months and you think he's the second coming of Hitler. But you aren't an extremist. No sir.

Captain crazy joined Wed Mar 25, 2009 9:28 so you probably wouldn't have.

Opinions are pretty divided (love in N Iraq, pretty antagonised in Turkey for example) but never did I hear an analogy between your government and Hitler. I lived in the states for 6 months and the government never bothered me once.
I disagree with many things your government does but that doesn't make them comparable to the Nazi regime. You do not live in a dictatorship. You are in fact saying bad things about your government and they are allowing you to do it, lucky you!
We are, in fact, in the transition from a free state to a police state. We have already seen documents from our DHS that identify those that dissent against the current administration as potential terrorists. We are seeing more and more, people that write or speak against the current administration are set in a position of scrutiny. Bush created the scenario where American citizens could be spied on without warrant. Obama will not over turn this. We are seeing more and more legislation being passed under pressure in the cover of night without the process of review and debate on it. We are hearing "Pass or else - Pass or else!!!"
True, we aren't there yet, but we are on the path. The time to resist is now, not when the next Hitler is setting battle plans and kangaroo court trials. This is why I tell you that the people are asleep... you are either too lazy or delusional to see. You don't want to believe that it can happen... but it can, and sadly, it will. The temptation for the elite is too great. We, the people, have to plant our feet, take up arms, and tell THEM the tyrants that we will not allow it. We, the people are individual and sovereign, and we do not subject to government, government is subject to us!
Death to Tyrants and sheepy people.

Have you ever read the communist manifesto? You pretty much just described it... Just make it so that the smart people will lead the revolution and that it will end in the abolishment of private property and you'd be a commie. Congrats.
I have read the communist manifesto. I do not think that your intellect is effected by your preferred social structure. I think that there are smart communists just as there are smart capitalists. Its just that in a free and capitalist republic, people are far more likely to succeed than they are in a communist / socialist society. The watered down lifestyle that socialist / communist governments give to their people in exchange for unfettered power is, frankly, shit. I see how it all starts with good intentions (or at least the appearance of it) but power consolidated in the hands of a few translates into tyranny. It is inevitable, and irresistible.
Let me ask this question - What has President Obama done to change President Bush's policies on wiretapping, for example? The answer is nothing. Which is why captain crazy is pretty much right on regarding the "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" stuff. You'd think a dude who ran on being the antithesis of GW Bush would do something to reverse Bush's ridiculous policies on violating Americans' rights to privacy.

Why does no one ever take to the streets, chanting "BE REASONABLE!"?
I'm not an extremist. I am a realist. Government grows by the hour, ever expanding, ever interfering despite the Constitution's direction to prevent this. Even so, so many of you sleepy sheeple joyfully take the government at its word. You have been educated to do this, and you don't even realize it. If being reasonable means consenting to government involvement in everyday life, or tyranny, as I like to call it, then I will choose to be unreasonable with that, because there is no reason for it.
You don't think labelling the government a tyrrany is a little....er..... extreme?
Not at all. Power, consolidated into the hands of the few, is not a matter of if tyranny will manifest, but when. Just ask Hitler.
You don't think likening your government to Hitler's is a little.....er...... extreme?
For all you liberals reading this - just because I call Obama the Socialist pushing Commi in a nice suit does not mean I liked all Bushes policies in the same department. He did not do much to maintain our freedoms but Obama is doing more damage in the first 6 months than took Little Bush 8 years to screw up. His activist admitting judge choice is a good recent example. I can't wait for some admitted radical leftist policy pusher to make laws on her own whim as opposed to interpreting the meaning of the constitution.
Not saying that our current Gov is like Hitler right now (as previously inferred), but if you take the time to read many of the writing's of the founding fathers you will find them speaking very Ill of all Government and even referring to it as necessary evil and various related language. I would say most of the presidents over the last 100 years have made small tears in the constitution But some much more than others and from Clinton on to now the last 20 years have had the most. Reagan constantly talked about Gov being the problem but Obama talks about Gov being some kind of solution! It has never been as such.

You seem to be missing the "necessary" part of the "necessary evil" in that sentence.
Look, I can quote founding fathers too!
"If all men were angels, no government would be necessary."

What do we want?
Reasonableness?
When do we want it?
Well, you know, take your time, I know you're very busy, I mean we think it's important but there's other stuff to sort out too. Maybe next Thursday?
WE shall not,
WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED,
OR not very far anyway,
unless we are in the way of course
in which we'll move over there and sing the song again!

It's a matter of balance. I don't think anyone is saying there should be no government - just less government.
