The Real Battle of Bunker Hill

Post by lespaulstudio »

Forget my old mp, I'm starting the real bunker hill draft... I won't be able to get started for about a month. Pay no heed to the random comments at the start of this forum, just the ones after the picture below.

Getting Started: Drafting Room Guidelines

Postby MrBenn » Tue Feb 24, 2009 8:23 pm
Welcome to the Foundry Drafting Room - Where Map Ideas are Hammered Out!

This Foundry sub-forum is where all CC maps begin to take shape... Here you will find raw ideas, working drafts, and an assortment of unfinished projects. All of them are in the melting pot, waiting to be hammered-out, before the Foundlings (maps and their makers) are thrust into the heat of the Main Foundry.

'Drafting Room'

To be considered a Working Draft a project must be more than just an idea; a Draft should have a clear thematic focus, a plan for how the gameplay will work, and a basic image which should include:
1. Territory Labels - temporary names or numbers will suffice, and are always open to change.
2. Borders/Paths/Impassables - it should be made clear where territories do/do not connect.
3. Bonus Areas - where combinations/groups of territories will award a bonus, this should be indicated on the map.
4. Legend - speculative bonus values and explanations of any attack rules or gameplay features.Draft images should not be larger than 630x600px (small image) or 840x800px (large image).

These are the qualifications for a draft, you should try and get your map to these standards, I like the idea but it needs work

The Battle For Bunker Hill

Post by lespaulstudio »

My previous idea of a bunker on a hill on an island didn't seem too great. It lacked history and ended up being a tad too complicated with not enough interesting gameplay. So, I have decided to try making a map of the actual battle of bunker hill.

The Battle of Bunker Hill took place on June 17, 1775 on Breed's Hill, during the Siege of Boston early in the American Revolutionary War. Because most of the fighting did not occur on Bunker Hill itself, the conflict is sometimes more accurately (though less frequently) called the Battle of Breed's Hill.

On June 13, the leaders of the besieging colonial forces learned that the British generals in Boston were planning to occupy the unoccupied hills around Boston. In response to this intelligence, 1,200 colonial troops under the command of William Prescott stealthily occupied Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill, constructed an earthen redoubt on Breed's Hill, and built lightly fortified lines across most of the Charlestown Peninsula.

When the British were alerted to the presence of the new position the next day, they mounted an attack against them. After two assaults on the Colonial lines were repulsed with significant British casualties, the British finally captured the positions on the third assault, after the defenders in the redoubt ran out of ammunition. The Colonial forces retreated to Cambridge over Bunker Hill, suffering their most significant losses on Bunker Hill.

While the result was a victory for the British, they suffered their greatest losses of the entire war: over 800 wounded and 226 killed, including a notably large number of officers. Their immediate objective (the capture of Bunker Hill) was achieved, but did not significantly alter the state of siege. It did, however, demonstrate that relatively inexperienced Colonial forces were willing and able to stand up to well-trained troops in a pitched battle.

Here is the actual map given on the wiki website. It is in the public domain and could be used as a starting point for the map I will make.

The only thing I haven't put on yet are the "bases"... don't know what they are gonna look like yet.

Bunker Hill

Post by lespaulstudio »

Ok so I guess I did this out of order...
I had an idea for a conquer club map based around a bunker that would be a little bit like doodle earth only bigger. I ended up making the entire map then realizing it probably wouldn't even make it on the site. It is a little complicated and needs some input/ revision. I hope its a good idea, if not please tell me so I can start working on a new idea.

I think a more realistic map would be better. I guess this one is too complicated and has a haphazard design.

If you are going for doodle earth, you have way too many territs. The bunker itself would be plenty big.

Other suggestions:
-Make flags more defined
-Clarify the Bombardment rules for Green Numbers
-Define base (are we talking the flag territs?)
-Clarify the Yellow number rules (every 2 yellow # territs gets, +2 for every base (flag)???)

Other than that, it looks playable.
Now you just need to generate interest. What is going to make people want to play this map.
It's obviously going to appeal to you because you made it. Doesn't make me excited tough.
Try adding a poll to the thread to see if people are interested.

good luck.

When I first read the title, I thought you were doing a map that represented the Battle of Bunker Hill...

With that in mind, I don't really get what/where the map is about :?

The ACTUAL Battle of Bunker Hill

I was thinking of adding a British Fleet, making three or four bunkers that had auto-deploy bonuses and bombard targets, a few one ways, some impassable barb wire, some trenches that connect odd ends of the map, and perhaps the American base in the top part of the map.

Would The Real Battle of Bunker Hill be a good idea?

Post by lespaulstudio »

Ok so i condensed (or Mr. Benn did) all my comments and topics into just one. Please vote for whichever map you would like to play. I would work on it a great deal if people vote about 75% or higher on one or both.

Hmmm, it looks pretty solid, I wouldn't mind playing it myself.

Re: [POLL] Do you want either Bunker Hill Map?

Post by sailorseal »

I would prefer a real map of bunker hill, not just prefer I would LOVE ONE!
Now try outlineing the real one a little more, i.i. make territs, bonuses etc.
