Come on guys, Jesus hung out with the tax collectors and prostitutes. That's who he came to save. So you guys should hang out and not be such ninnies about a little old salty language.

This is the internets, this is where we get to use the kind of language we never can in real life. So roll with it. It's the wild west.

I would rather suspect it is because some people don't want to talk about religion and politics or, perhaps just think that too many threads get headed in that direction.

In honesty, while I (and it seems you also) enjoy talking about these issues, I can see where someone wanting to just chat about sports or music might not want to have to go through 10 pages of "is there really a God" to get to that one "will the Pirates take the pennant" thread.

Let's have an American music/sports forum and a European music/sports forum. Then, all the people that aren't from the UK will complain that there's no Hungarian music/sports forum.

To be fair, sport is a pretty worldwide thing.

I don't watch Baseball, Basketball, American Football or Ice hockey. How many north american sports fans can say that?

Quite a few, actually. I don't really listen to orchestral music, classical rock, or techno, but I'm still in a usergroup dedicated to music appreciation. There's no need to be so divisive about sport when it has the uniting factor of spirited competition. If you are looking for a place where you can go to see only things you like, rather than the spirit of things that you do, then you are looking in the wrong place. Not everyone can get what they want. Go away.

In short, as the site is dominated by North American players, it takes a bit of hubris to demand that those outside of the continent be catered to.

I wasn't aguing for it to be seperated, hell I don't think there should be any seperation at all (other than that already in place).

But you can't deny that American intrest in sports and European intrest in sports are almost completely different, unlike in music.

Excellent discussions on potential ideas taking place here. I'm following it closely, even if I'm not posting a whole ton at the moment. Keep the ideas and pros/cons coming if you don't mind, it is helping quite immensely. :)

Perhaps, but my point is that it shouldn't matter.

Hmm... Kind of a tough decision, but I'd have to say religion, if anything to keep people from preaching in the rest of the forums. Nothing against anyone here, just saying.

My point would be that those who's world-view makes them tend to preach (or, inventing a term, anti-preach) cannot restrict themselves to a forum on that topic.
You can't say "Forget about Jesus when you post".
If you're a Jesus fan, it permeates everything you say, do, and post. It is not separate from your opinion about politics, morality, who to vote for, or even global warming.
Blimey, Opti-prime, you should get this point more easily than most...

I'm not sure whether any additional forums or sub-forums are necessary on this site, but I do think that this particular forum should be renamed "Much Ado About Semantics".

I am against the splitting up of this forum. This forum has all of these topics, and it's been quite fine like this. If this were to be split, the forum would appear much more inactive, leading to actual inactivity as people would not want to carry the forum on their shoulders or see no point posting in a forum where there's one thread a week.

i did read your following post and i understand that most on here are North american. sam was just saying he didn't want to trawl through pages about american politics/sports.

i voted sports and music, but i can't see the point of having a seperate forum for any of these. like people have already said, the activity will look and be even less. compared to this time last year you probably have lost a quarter of the post count per day.

On thing that could keep this site more family friendly for the non-prems would be to make some forums accessible only to prems. One site that I visit is mmba.org. They have it set up so that non members cannot see "The Basement" and the "Let's Talk Politics forums". (Check it out, you will not see those two forums) It works well for that site.

I haven't read too many of the posts so don't shoot me if this isn't a new idea. I would say "Religion and Politics" should go under one category and "Entertainment" under another which includes tv,movies, etc as suggested but also include sports in that since 1. sports are a form of entertainment and 2. there aren't too many sports threads in here.

I've spoken my peace.

What on earth for, what purpose would that serve on a site like this? What topics would you have be premium only? And how would you enforce it?

The forum is fine as it is. However. Topics which could have their own forum, and are not talked about greatly (from an international viewpoint):
- Videos Games (could go under entertainment)
- History
- Sports
- Computer help (for those geez wizzes who love helping people with their computer. Of course, I have a feeling this wouldn't be a very frequent forum, so probably not a good idea)
