I understand that it is mostly done only when you are at L-1 but under other circumstances, why wouldn't you roleclaim. For example, if you are a vanilla townie, is there any hurt in saying that at the very beginning of the game? And on power roles, should you claim to be a cop as soon as you find one scum, or should you wait to claim until you find at least one more?
Also, you might want to include a section explaining WIFOM. It took me a while to figure it out.
Claiming vanilla townie at the beginning of the game if you are one is a big mistake. For starters, you could be lying and it also makes you expendable as a lynch, people will say there is no harm in losing a vanilla townie and therefore they will be happy to lynch you. If you survive the lynch you will put more power roles in danger of being killed off at night as with more townies exposed they are more likely to be hit by the mafia as their chances of hitting a power role is increased.
With cops it is generally common practice to claim after you have found scum but not before. If you claim after finding scum then 9 times out of 10 you can get that scum lynched, plus then have protection tonight if the doctor is still around (N.B. I have always pulled the scam that if the doctor is dead, I say back up doc protect me even when there is never actually a back up doc most the time as it may prevent the mafia from targetting you). At this point it is also a good idea to name who you have cleared as the more information the better for the town. However, if you choose to wait you expose yourself to death at night and also have no protection - plus like their are scum tells for town there are also often cop tells for the mafia, and it is quite easy to spot a cop from the other townies just by the way they act during the day phase - often a little more outspoken and defensive of certain people (particularly those they've cleared so far).
