perma ban "solution?" ?????

Post by PLAYER57832 »

Posted here because the idea is still rough.

Idea:
When someone is perma-banned for FORUM or chat abuse (only -- that is, no cheaters, no "I was a complete jerk to administration", no one making serious threats, etc.), a group of users could petition to have the person reinstated. The matter would be put for a vote in the main forum (currently named Turtle Soup ;) ).

BUT... it would not stop there. A group of players would have to accept responsibility for the player's behavior. They would be responsible for makig sure the person does not go out of line, (pming them) for a set period (1, 6 months, etc.) If the person DOES go out of line, for nay but the absolute most minor infraction, then the originally banned user would get a ban and the other users would get a "vacation" of, say a week or so. HOWEVER, that penalty would either not escalate or, if it seems like the same users are stepping up and then not following through, could escalate ONLY for this particular issue (a seperate track record or none).

I can already see some issues, but this is just a discussion for now.

i would not agree with this because even though you may like them alot pm are sent and the admins are the only ones that know the whole story. unless all pms were made public which i would not like at all is the only way i could see this working out.

this is untrue... often, members know more about a situation than the admins do. we share PM's, emails with friendly and disciplinary warnings, swap posts that warnings were received for, etc.. there is an incredible amount of info shared by regular users on the forums, but i guess you have to be in the loop, which you clearly are not.

nice start on this suggestion. it seems really odd that the admins seem really intent on keeping members perma-banned from the forums, from coming back. yet if i created a multi tomorrow and broke the first rule of CC or farmed, i would be able to come back and play games for $25... why can't a forum banned member do the same? it is illogical. break the first rule of CC or farm, which affect several people and often times the scoreboard and/or driving potential members away, and you can come back for money. play around in the forums and "skirt", not break the rules, and you can be perma-banned.

something needs to change, the admins/mods are not moving this communtiy forward, they are retarding and sterilizing it.-0

Instead of permanent why not make it a no time limit ban. Banned until further notice.

I don't see why CC needs to go beyond 1 month forum bans for violating the forum rules (i have no problem with perma-banning people that cheat in the actual games). A month is a long freaking time, and in my opinion they really need to take a step back and realize that they are an online gaming site. This isn't life or death.

Honestly, what would be the harm in banning a guy like Mustard for a month and keeping him on a short leash when he returns? If you keep banning someone for one-month periods, eventually he or she is going to get sick of the extended vacations and shape up, or simply not return to the forums because their draw and connection to the website would fade due to their repeated extended vacations.

These draconian measures are not only out of hand, but also laughable. Get over yourself, CC.

Just to reiterate what was said in the "6 month ban instead of permaban", etc threads, any sort of "parole" or "short leash" was said to require too much mod time. That is why I suggested what would essentially be a player posse, to take the load off the mods.

Personally, I do question the whole permaban for small forum abuses issue. And, in the case of several a while back, using another profile for reasons other than cheating before that rule was clarified .. deserved (and got) a lesser punishment.

perhaps the solution would be to follow the guidelines and behave, rather than lining up enough warnings to put yourself in the danger-zone then trying to change policy so that you dont get banned....

yeah, when "skirting" the rules is listed as part of a reason for a ban and/or perma-ban, what is your solution then? yes, you can get in trouble for not BREAKING the rules, but SKIRTING the rules... things need to change around here, and it is even more obvious with the recent bans of Timminz and Mr Changsha...-0

skirting the rules is the same as breaking them.... i know you are not dumb owen, how could you honestly believe that attempting to get around the rules without technically breaking them wouldnt be viewed as more or less the same thing.... thats like saying, i didnt kill that guy, i just didnt warn him that a 2-ton piano was gonna fall on his head.

i dont know why anybody would want to be a mod, seems like a horrible thankless job.. but here are some selections from the forum guidelines:

Common sense prevails - if you are intentionally or continually making this community less enjoyable for others, you're going to be removed from it. It's that simple. This applies to any part of the site where interaction takes place; in Forums, Private Messages, Live Chat and Game Chat.

OK, since you're still reading it can't hurt to start with the absolute basics. The Forums, Private Messages, Live Chat and Game Chat are all privileges of being a Conquer Club community member. They are not inalienable rights. So if you find yourself acting a little Martian, Venusian or otherwise "un-CC" as you might say, you will find that those privileges are affected.

just because you are here, does not mean you MUST be here. This is a business and CC does reserve the right to promote or discourage any kind of behavior it sees fit.

this is the dumbest idea ever. so lets give a previous banned member the power to have a bunch of other players temp banned for infractions they have been known to commit. this just increases the blaze of glory factor by five.

Ah yes, because everyone who wants to change the guild lines is next on the block to be arbitrarily banned. Good try, maybe next time you can make a valid point.

It's not a democracy, kiddies.

It's a dictatorship.

Letting popular assholes, likeable as they may be get nine lives because they have a fan club is opening more trouble than it's worth from a management perspective.
So good luck selling that load of tripe.

Be a dick, get the boot. How simple do you need it? Fucking behave.

Or if you can't restrain yourself, suck it up when they step on your junk.

The lay of the land is love it or leave it. Anyone have a list of those who have not renewed?
Or have left for at least 4-5 weeks? Betcha it's a pretty short one.

That would be a good point, if you weren't disproving it by saying it.

Let me explain for you.

You're being a dick. I doubt you will get the boot for it.

Have a great day.

Actually, the policy does make a whole lot of sense. For multiple accounts, you get ONE warning, and that warning costs you $25. In the forums, you get multiple warning/vacations before the final ban, and none of them cost money. The punishment IS much stiffer for multiple accounts.

Those two are on vacation? I'd LOVE to see those posts. (I'm not saying they're not legitimate necessarily...I'm just saying I'd love to see them! <grin>)

Not necessarily. Skirting the rules doesn't necessarily mean INTENTIONALLY skirting the rules. I'm sorry, but as much as I agree with you (100%) that this wouldn't be a problem if people would just stop behaving like asses, I disagree on this point. If you're not breaking a rule, you're not breaking a rule.

Or, more accurately, it's like picking up a candy bar and walking toward the store entrance to leave...then at the last minute returning to the checkout lane and paying for it.

Sure, but they'd still be forum vacationed.

I don't care for the idea myself, but the one thing I do like about it a lot is that you're thinking outside the box. Typically, that's the road to finding the best compromises.
