Turn missing suggestion

Post by bigpete007 »

Accused:
350812

The accused are suspected of:

Other:
Not quite sure what it is, but there is something about this player that makes me think it isn't right about how he plays the game.

Game number(s):

Game 5371735
Game 5371731
Game 5371733

Comments:
He missed 2 turns in a row on all three games and then reappeared. On game 5371735 he reappeared to take 1 go and has then missed another go. (I thought you got kicked out for missing 3 turns, or is it only 3 in a row?) He has stayed silent and it seems like there is something fishy about him, just can't quite put my finger on it.

Plus as well in all the games he has played he has never left ratings for anyone and his turns taken % is currently 95%.

This is not sour grapes because I am losing in 1 of them, but I have won one game and am fairly even with him in another.

Just thought it was worth a heads up to people.

Just to note to the above, he has now missed 4 out of 8 turns. This is just plain silly and annoying because he is quite likely to reappear tomorrow and take his turn and we start the cycle over again.

I think the rules should be changed that if you miss 3 in a row or more than 4 in a game you are kicked out instantly.

I posted the above in the cheating and abuse forum due to a VERY slow player in the above games.

To put it bluntly, I think the game should be changed to simply "Miss 3 turns in a row and you're out. Miss 4/5 or more in the game and you're out". It is taking forever to play these games as he misses 2 turns in a row and then moments before his 3rd missed turn he appears and plays his go (Claiming the deferred troops as a sort of bonus) and then misses 2 more gos. It is quite likely he will appear tomorrow just before his next turn is due to run out and thus the missing turns cycle begins again.

Do others think the above suggestion could/should be implemented?

Personally, I like it as a suggestion. However, I believe it's been suggested previously (several times) and shot down.

I strongly disagree with this suggestion.

Firstly, you have premium, so you can join enough games to even forget which one is which. I never notice if someone misses a turn unless that person went right before me and I can see it in the log without scrolling.

Secondly, I have been in several games that have lasted well over 100 rounds. Many people have games which are in round 300 or so. So if I miss 5 turns out of 300, you are suggesting I get kicked from the game? Almost every one of these long games would have had everyone kicked by now. The only way this suggestion would work is the game kicking you for missing a certain % of turns. That I would be in favor with.

But then you get to a similar debate as to number of turns missed.
Say you set it at 25% of turns missed, in a 100 round game thats fair enough, but then that becomes 1 round in 4.

Then again I suppose there is an argument that "If you're likely to miss a round in the first 4 rounds of a game, you shouldn't start it".

No it wouldn't. It is an addition to the current rule, not a replacement.

You get kicked if:
- You miss three consecutive turns
- You miss three non-consecutive turns and at least x% of all turns in the game

Well in the game mentioned rtropp has missed 4 out of the 8 playable rounds, what on Earth is the % level then to be kicked?

You're a premie. You don't have to worry about slow games. Just get over it.

You know if you begin turn & never deploy before time runs out on your turn you lose the troops. (happened to me on a comp crash) Do the same with missed turns. Get rid of the deferred troops. A lot fewer turns would be missed.

Because people definitely miss turns on purpose.

There is only one situation when missing turns gets you an advantage: a 3 man game with an idiot in it who thinks that because you missed 2 turns that they should go all out into the other player because you are obviously not coming back.

In any other game, you lose cards, your bonuses are more easily breakable, and you can't do anything to stop other people from taking bonuses, making kills in escalating, you can't kill anyone yourself, in chained and adjacent, you have to put all your troops in one stack etc.

There are a million ways missing turns hurts you rather than helps you, trust me, people do it on purpose less than .01% of the time.

slowreactor - I hear what your saying, but I only tend to play 6-8 games a time and when I log in I want to be able to take turns and be seen as a reasonably quick player. Not keep logging in and seeing players skipping goes time after time.

In one of the games that is now finished, he got 30 deferred troops even though I did what I could to defeat his troops. That to me seems ridiculous so early in the game as you could get him down to one or two territories and he logs in and is able to whack down 30 troops so you end up back at square one again.

I suppose an alternative would be to stop receiving deferred troops or half the amount you would have received had you logged in.

I guess I just want people to play the game in the right spirit. :| :(

Been playing #1gamer (When he bothered to show up) and he has done similar. Had a check through his history and he has skipped goes in other games, yet because the games at that stage are only about 8-10 rounds old, he seems to have been able to miss 4 goes and still not be kicked out. I appreciate I am on the verge of beating him and getting the points, but I'd rather beat a player who has played valiantly than one who just quit and played the odd go.

I think this should be looked at. As above I made a suggestion and it wasn't really accepted, but I think there is scope for discussion on this as it seems to make a mockery of the "miss 3 consecutive turns or % of rounds" by players turning up and having the odd go now and then without really playing the game in the right spirit.

Big difference IMO between the letter of the rules and the spirit of the rules. Yes you can't be kicked out, but its not to say you should be pushing those rules to the limit and not playing 'fair'.
