How about Justin Verlander, eh? 123 pitches, and the last pitch he threw, in the 8th inning? A 100 mph fastball to strike out Jason Bay. 100 mph. Cy Young, anyone?

He leads the leauge in stikeouts by a bit and has 13 wins. If he can get 18-20 wins and bring his ERA down a bit, (which I think he can do) then I don't see why not. Let's hope so!
Also, you forgot the rest of that line - 8 IP 4h 0 ER BB 8 K
Braves won last night against the Phils after losing a heartbreaker the night before (I think the Braves strategy on Friday probably should have been to not hit it into the outfield as Victorino and Werth caught anything that was hit within a mile of them.)

I watched the end of the Braves game... a lead off single followed by a bunt
that results in 2 errors on the pitcher and the tying run scores from 1st
and the winning run on is now standing on 3rd.
Boston at the Rangers the night before... top of the 9th the Rangers with a 4-2 lead,
there's 2 outs, the Red Sox are down to their last strike...
and from there they score 6 freakin' runs. ARGH!
Texas left nothing to chance yesterday though and ran right past 'em
stealing 8 bases on the way to tightening things up again with a win.

It's what we've come to expect from some Cubs fans. Word is though that they removed the wrong guy from the stands.
It's what we've come to expect of fans. Any team. Except the Marlins and the Pirates, they only get 400 fans a game, most of them are pleasant.
Dude, Cardinals fans...
...I prefer a man who will burn the flag and then wrap himself in the Constitution to a man who will burn the Constitution and then wrap himself in the flag.
its funny how nothing is really made about a chicago fan throwing a beer on a philadelphia player.
if it were a Philadelphia fan you'd be hearing about this incident 50 years from now. and it would be changed to the fan dump a pile of rocks on the chicago player.
the national media portrays people like chicago fans as cute and cuddly but philadelphia fans are barbarians.

its a joke.
I couldn't agree more. That kind of crap annoys the shit out of me.
On an unrelated note, this Dan Haren Cy Young talk needs to probably stop at this point. He's had some rough outings post All Star break.

if not then i'd make myers the closer.
assume Lidge is ok
Lidge - closer
myers, madson, romero - set up guys
pedro, park eyre, durbin
in that scenario thats a very strong bullpen. no weak links.
pedro and park could come in and throw a couple good innings, good set up men
everyone else calls me crazy but id bring up Drabek as well. use him like Tampa used Price last year.
I agree with your playoff bullpen. Not sure about Drabek. If he works out when the september callups happen, I think you have to include him on the playoff roster. I notice Moyer isn't on your list.
How about the unassisted triple play to end the game against the Mets last night?
Last time it happened according to what I've heard was back in 1927 by Detroit.
Last unassisted triple play I saw was by Rafael Furcal in a similar situation (basically cauight teh ball ran and stepped on second and chased the runner down before he could get back to first) back in his last year as a Brave (coincidentally he had another triple play a few games before his unassisted one [caught the ball, stepped on second and threw the ball back to the first baseman for the force out.])

It was definitely weird. Unfortunately, Bruntlett sucks and should not be on the team.

Not disagreeing but who should be playing his spot?

It was only made possible because the same guy made 2 errors right before that. People really should be talking about that at least alongside the triple play. Unassisted triple plays are flukes; 2 errors in the same inning is a concern.
In other news, how about that start by Smoltz? He should have been left in to pitch the 6th (especially since the bullpen didn't do so hot). But 7 straight strikeouts (Cardinals record) and 9 overall in just 5 innings was pretty impressive. Plus his ability to bunt and run the bases helped.
