I'm not quite sure what to do with Round 1. We started off with 100 players, and there have been many dropouts. I've run out of reserves, and we're now down to 82 players. Round 2 is supposed to start with 80, and everyone is supposed to play another 4 games on Circus Maximus and all the retakes before then. By the time we get to Round 2, it's pretty likely there will be even fewer players, so all the numbers will be wrong.
So I'm asking you, the participants, what you'd like to see happen to Round 1. Please vote in the above poll, and let me know your comments, either by PM, or preferably by posting in this thread.
I don't want to abandon the tournament, it's just all gone a bit wrong!
Many thanks,
Tupence

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.
Part of the drop out problem is that you came up with fiendishly clever and complicated tourney scheme- which is also what makes this so cool of a tournement. (Indeed, I've been plotting ideas for my first tournement and you have truly been my idol, as I try to find a balance point between your varied coolness of variety and my time constraints.) If you try to scale the tourney back, I would shrink numbers in future rounds (so 75 go on to round 2, etc.) which will eventually also mean one or two fewer rounds, rather then waste the effort you've put in so far.
Also, you've got one expanding pool of reserves- folks who fail the cut. Call it a suspension rather then dropping out, and suspended students get the chance to drop back in. I'm doing poorly enough so far, that I probably would have failed out in round 1 if not for deadbeaters- I would be glad to get a chance to continue. (And as the number of participants drops by round, each round should speed up some and the shrinkage issue decrease also.)
I am good in whatever way works. I voted to just continue as planned. With of us, then we are battling not to be the bottom two. And they could be reserves for Round two!
Any way you run it, I will continue to play it. Good tournament.
I really don't like the idea of restarting a and assuming round 1 meant nothing .. especially for those who did really good and now have to begin at nothing.. it simply isnt fair to every player...
since people have dropped, it should be that we stop where we are and start round 2 such that things done matter just as much
Thanks for your input everyone. Even though the option to start the tournament again from Round 2 got the most votes, it also got the most negative comments, by forum post and PM. For that reason I'll go with the second-most popular option, which is to carry on as planned. There will only be a maximum of 2 players eliminated at the end of Round 1 and I'm sure they will come in very useful as reserves in Round 2 at some point. I'll try and keep the tournament moving so that we keep as many players in as possible!
