EJ's career lasted 4 decades; Joel's lasted 2. Think about the difference in lyrics...

I like both a lot, but if I have to pick, it'd be Billy Joel. Just a bit more into my taste in music.

I probably agree with this.

Why pick? But if I have to, it would be Billy Joel. ... and yes, there are others I would place above each.

Elton John can still fill a house. Billy Joel is a great chunk of talent, but has a personality like a spoiled 8 year old. So Elton fer the win. JRock

Uh, did that just happen? You picked based on Billy being a primadonna? Strange, oh wait. Trolling! I like it.
Yeah, what the rocketman said.

Hmmmm.......doing a little searching and they have actually toured together... I was going over both of their discographies and I forgot how much good stuff Joel had put out. Then again he blew a marriage to Christie Brinkley, and recently Katie Lee so I guess it's very close on talent and no contest in personalities. Of course I'm posting this to a crown that cried and pee'd their pants when that one gloved, plastic junkie-pedophile dropped dead of an overdose so perhaps character won't count for much. Neither. Joel over John though. But seriously, neither.

EJ is gay so I'm gonna have to go with BJ. Had EJ stayed in the closet, I might give him some real consideration but,...no. Interestingly though, both have NASCAR names.

... Bennie And The Jets ... Rocket Man ... Tiny Dancer ... Daniel ... Those four alone give EJ the win in my opinion. Great songs. ...

I'll give bubble's former ded owner his due in the talent department now you're going too far the other way Rocket. Blew his marriage to Brinkely as in she left him for another guy. Keep reading. I'll go along with the other dude that was dissapointed there's no "both" option.

Actually, I think Elton's 'classics' (e.g. Bennie and the Jet, Tiny Dancer) are INFERIOR to Billy Joel's classic...Piano Man, The Way You Are, etc. BUT. The reason I put EJ on top is he has a broad range of good songs, spanning from country, to 80s pop. The reason BJ is more popular (on this site) is probably the age group; his style appears to younger people. Try looking up some UNDERRATED Elton John songs, they are better than the classics: "Street Kids" "Too Low for Zero" "Dear John" "Leather Jackets"

That's awesome.
Yew kids turn down that "Glass houses" record! I hate bug music.
How old are you that you think Billy Joel appeals to the "kids"?

Great songs, but I'd counter with;
...Piano Man
...Only the Good Die Young
...Rockin' in the Free World
...My Life
I enjoy the music of both, so......

I'm 43, and I love Billy Joel's music. Then again, I like Elton's too...just not as much.
However, as a teacher, I'm reasonably sure there are an AWFUL LOT of "younger people" who don't even know who Billy Joel IS.

Awwww crap. I clicked on this thread hoping to see a link to a steel-cage death match between the 2 of them. How disappointing. However I voted for Billy Joel. Also I'm pretty certain he'd win in the cage as well.
