Woodruff, I'm certain that, should we get around to it, that you shall best me in a game - and that will certainly heal your bruised ego.

@Falkomagno => I want love, a long life (without much suffering), a cosy place near a lake, possibly in a mountain valley, possibly said cosy place could be a farm... I want less killing, I want better acting, I want less people bullshitting themselves, I want sleep, I want to cook me some food, I want to slowly torture someone to death

I've read this thread and can't beleive no one picked up on this little bit. is this person a complete weirdo. he is definetly going to marry his step-sister who is his mom.

Oh my god. You are one of those crazy people who make their names that even if they're the wrong way around, they're the same. Crazy.

Quantum Mechanics only proves that you will never know exactly where something is on the quantum level, it's simply moving too fast in any number of directions. That's why it's called the 'electron cloud'. That does not make it's location 'random' to me. That makes it 'unknown'. The unknown is what many people refer to as random, even if it may not be so strictly by definition.

Random implies that it happens with nothing to cause it to happen. And while the quantum universe may have effects happen before causes, that implies one still exists with the other.

More often, the connotation of random is implied when someone says something 'out of nowhere'. In reality, they felt an impulse to say it, and acted on that. That would be 'unknown' to the person hearing it...and those labeled 'random'.

And...why am I an idiot? :-s

You had me worried for a long time, until I realized you were talking about the Baka thing. I just felt like saying it - no offense intended to your person. Baka =p

I never referenced the electron cloud; nor am I speaking of the idea that if you know it's position you can't know it's velocity, and visa-versa. I agree with you that "The unknown is what many people refer to as random, even if it may not be so strictly by definition."

What I was talking about was the

that has not only been theorized but also observed. And again while I agree that there are probably some abstract rules that this creation and destruction follows, I point out that these, like everything else, change upon being observed; another finding of quantum mechanics. Therefore, because the basic underlining rules that govern this can be changed, they are not set in stone, and there remains the possibility of truly random occurrences.

@DAZMCFC => I'm not from that part of the South. The last red-highlighted desire of mine which you reference is simply a sadistic fantasy that I know I will never carry out, because eventually I'd come back to my senses, and, even assuming I got away with it, I wouldn't be able to life with myself.

@Skittles! => =D>

@AOG => as Keshane would say,
Keshane wrote:'randomness' ... simply doesn't exist.

Either that, or he's a fan of the Sims video game series.

It'd be rather stupid to use an actual saw to saw off the barrel from a shotgun... I mean sure, yeah, it sounds right, but no, unless you know what you're doing, just no....

And yes I enjoyed putting Sims in small rooms where they slowly died... and the other Sim games where you could summon monsters and natural disasters to destroy people.

And KB, I thought I had responded???
I guess I'll send it off again...

Ay, but the 'random' creation and destruction of particles is simply the 'unknown'. Until we know it, how can it appear as any more than random? The argument can be made both ways unfortunately.

Pointless argument. We can't "know" whether true randomness can exist or not. Any proof will be circular, thus it's ridiculous to even argue about it.

Also we can relatively simply simulate randomness, so who cares?

Also welcome Dayad. Are you a force for evil or good?

Also Relatively Simply Simulated Randomness is a great name for a band.

No - and on second thoughts it might be a tad..... pompous. Now when I start the band I have no intention of starting I shall have to completely rethink the whole gimmicky name thing. Shit.

At least you are a force, Dayad. Some here are not...
