Grievances 2.0

Postby lackattack on Fri May 26, 2006 8:43 am

Based on your feedback and my wild imagination, I came up with a list of changes to shape Grievances into a more useful tool for the community to encourage good behaviour:

* Separate Grievances and Ignore List into two different tools
* Allow members to file one grievance per game recently played with the other player. You will have to select the game number from a picklist.
* If you file several grievances against someone only the first one raises their grievance count
* Members may respond with a rebuttal to each individual grievance
* Establish guidelines on writing grievances (e.g. don't swear, don't file out of revenge)
* Appoint a grievance moderator to deal with grievances that fall outside the guidelines

This time I'm seeking feedback before I muck around with it, so please tell me what you think :)

Sounds like a balance between all the suggestions that have been raised, and a fair compromise. I like it.
Positive: Great guy, will always play to his best. Honourable and fun to play with as well. You know you're in for a rough time playing mrdexter :) Game 31384 Haydena

Would the ignore list be the same as before? If so, I'm all for that. Save the grievances for the more serious offenses.

I'm not grasping how they would be combined? Can you elaborate?

I would prefer separate....because there are some people I see in posts that I would rather not play against, because of their comments. I also would like a list where I can ignore a player, but not because of anything they did wrong, other than being a total knob.

Right now they are combined - if you file a grievance that person can't join your games.

so if the two things are seperate and i file a grievence against someone, they wont automatically be banned from playing games i am in, right? i would have to add them to the ignore list manually?

Is it meant that the ignore list is meant to stop them from entering your games, and the grievances just to gauge who is an untrustworthy player?

I cant vote. My option would be "only ignore list, forget grievances".

There are things i like about both setups, and there are things i don't like.

The ignore list allows you to put someone down that you don't want to play so that you won't ever have to deal with whatever it is that they did to get you angry enough to not put them on the list. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to ignore someone you haven't played.

I like the greivances because you have a way to see the integrity of your opponents. There is notation, and you are able to put down why you dislike the player.

An obvious, clearcut way to tackle this issue is to have both lists and they will each perform their deignated function.

I think there is a very good way that the lists can be effectively combined, really only using the grievance list. I think its fair to assume that the main reason that a player wants to ignore another is because they feel the player is a cheater. If this were the case, what if the grievances were left as is, but an option is created for starting games. A "Grievance Tolerance" The player could select the maximum number of grievances a player partaking in his game may have against them if they wish to play. Forgive me for being oblivious to programming and everything. The numbers could vary from 0 to unlimitted and would allow those very picky, with high participation standards to effectively ignore all known cheaters.

I like the idea of having both as seperate tools. That way, I can ignore all the people I don't like without having to explain myself, and the grievence list will give all of the juvenile cry-babies and drama-queens something to do.

I can't wait to see it in action!

I never really used either system because I'm fairly tolerant of players that aren't multis or something. However I'd like the ignore list, just to get some security from stdb04, he's down below 150 pts now. But the ignore list isn't really the solution to that problem so meh...

Either way is good for me. Something I might suggest would be that once somebody gets a grievance you can choose to ignore them whether you've played them or not. It would ensure that the two lists are tied together in some way.

But really I don't think keeping them together is necessary, a lot of people, or at least a small number of very vocal people seem to love their (seperate) ignore list, so I say let them have it.

How will the grievance moderator work? If I'm getting revenge grievances, can I petition to have them removed especially if what they claim in their grievance isn't true, or is this moderator not going to waste a ton of time sifting through game records? Are grievances going to be reviewed with or without me petitioning for their review?

Also, I noticed that you said you will pick your grievance from a list of game numbers, will these games that are in question then be directly linked in your grievance? I think that would make it easier to check the validity of the grievances for the casual player.
