So it seems to me that we should transition this thread into a discussion of awesome mall antics. To recap:
pimpdave wrote:When I was a teenager, I went with some friends to celebrate our Second Amendment rights by playing Laser Tag all through the mall.

It was awesome.

However, that mall apparently hates the Second Amendment, lasers, and fun, because they threw us out for causing a disturbance.
pimpdave wrote:Another thing I used to get in trouble for at the mall was "cruising for the foxes". Remember how there were always guys who would drive past the entrances blasting Wu-Tang, or whatever, to get the attention of the other high school girls there?

Well, my younger brother and I used to get into my car, and crank the shit out of songs like, C is for Cookie, It's Not Easy Being Green, Particle Man, Istanbul (Not Constantinople), and sometimes even that Haddaway song from the famous SNL skit.

So we'd drive by nice and slowly, with the windows down, stereo fully cranked (the only reason to have a good sound system, in my opinion) a few times. Then depending on how the kids trying to look bored would react, we'd either stop the car and get out and do some ridiculous dancing then jump in and drive away, or else call out to them in our best Eurotrash accents, hollering things like "Hello foxes! What do you think of our impressive rocking and rolling! Why not you come for ride with us!" I don't think we would have known what to do if someone took us up on our offer.

Occasionally we'd bring along a less brave friend to videotape us and the looks on the audience's faces. Those were some great times. There was one cool mall cop who would just smile at us, I guess because he got the joke. But most of the rest were unamused because they hate America.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, we also used to blast this song: Everything But the Girl- Missing (remix) for the silly dancing part. Remember it from the Mango skits?

And yes, I did spend money on acquiring those CDs. Sadly, I don't know what ever happened to them, but it was so worth it for those memories.

There was another time (as a teenager) my brother and I mounted up with the video camera and ridiculous stereotypical reporter disguises (complete with fedoras that had index cards with PRESS written in crayon) and rolled into Walmart to do some investigative journalism. We were very concerned about the salary of the smiley face guy that always rolls back prices, and in particular, whether he was a legal resident of the USA and able to work.

We interviewed several people before getting thrown out. The manager tried to do harm to our cameraman. So we called him fat.

It was awesome.

Here's a semi tragic/ rather funny mall story.

Kid is calling his mom on the phone for a ride home. Cop comes up and starts cracking him with a billy club out of the blue. Kid beats the crap out of the cop, who is slightly older. Poor mom heard the entire thing on the phone. Kid gets arrested of course, but... turns out the cop mistook him for someone who just shoplifted, and being older decided it was easier to just crack him over the head, rather than ask him for Id, identify himself as a Police officer, or confirm he was the actual suspect.

Kid was released for obvious reasons. Cop had to retire. Just a tragic story all around, but still its funny to some degree.

My personal favorite mall story, was that I was working for a mall, and in charge of the display windows. I was having some trouble with it, but then all of a sudden the mannequin came to life and helped me make the most inspiring window ads possible, and I got a massive promotion, and made a fortune....

hmmm...no...wait a minute....that was just a stupid 80's movie.

My actual best mall story was when the earth got knocked off of its axis, and all the people got turned into zombies....no...now that i think about it....that was a stupid 80's movie too.

Ok, my best mall story was when I was at a fortune teller machine, wished I was a grown up, went to the mall, and became a vice president of marketing at a toy company....fck.... I watch too many movies

I could tell very interesting mall stories, but they're not appropriate for this forum.

Yeah, I confess, I was just trying to make myself look interesting and mysterious. There's absolutely nothing interesting about me. I'm boring.

Me and a buddy printed lottery tickets (all lotteries must be registered in Canada, but we didn't), found a sport shop to donate some ski gear, got permission to set up a table in the mall, and sold tickets on the ski package, so we could go on a ski trip to Quebec.

Had a great time at Mont Ste. Anne.

You do realize that Lack can be forced to give out your real information to the "mounties" should they decide its worth pursuing. Of course, they realize that 90% of what people say on the net is garbage, but...

It was a long time ago. Is there a statute of limitations for no lottery permit?

Did the real ticket holders for the seats show, or was it general seating?

This was the early eighties when most stadiums were still predominantly standing, it all changed a couple of years later after the tragedy at Heysel.

jay_a2j wrote:He was asked to leave because he was TALKING ABOUT GOD. He was not causing a disturbance, he was having a conversation with patrons who had the freedom to walk away but did not. You can't be asked to leave JUST BECAUSE. It's called freedom and I know in California there are probably less freedoms than other states but we STILL have a Constitution. If this was, as you say, a case where it was just a matter of "refusing to leave" it would never have made the news.
The link goes to an article titled "Man Sues California Mall After Guard Arrests Him for Having Conversation About God." He wasn't asked to leave JUST BECAUSE. His act of disregarding mall policy was intentional and he knew exactly what he was doing. It seems from the article that the youth pastor's intent was to create an incident. Unfortunately for him, he was NOT ARRESTED or CHARGED and didn't become the victim he hoped to be... but he did manage to get press coverage from FOX News online.
the article wrote:Court documents claim that Westfield’s policy simply limits activities that have a "political, religious or other noncommercial purpose" to designated areas within the mall, in order to "minimize congestion." Speakers must submit a written application at least four days in advance. Access to the designated areas is then awarded on a "first come, first selected" basis.
Roseville Galleria mall security guards wrote:. . . warned Snatchko on a number of occasions that he was violating the mall's Courtesy Guidelines by discussing religion with strangers. During one of his visits, guards even gave him a copy of the guidelines.
California superior court's 2008 ruling wrote:. . . that the mall's ban on controversial conversations with strangers doesn't violate freedom of speech.
jay_a2j wrote:I know in California there are probably less freedoms than other states.
That's pretty funny stuff right there, because California is famous for it's nonliberal tight assed views.
