You said like, you've offended me and you've learned your lesson, stuff like that. I'm not one to be a dick about something like music choice...nietzsche wrote:what did i say??

As someoone who often acts like a self-righteous asshole about music. I agree. It is all about taste. I like music a lot and I do tend to force my view onto others...Neoteny wrote:Stop backpedaling. Musical tastes are, for the most part, completely subjective. Don't listen to the self-righteous assholes who don't even bother with a genre of music outside of their pet favorites. Listen to what you like. You shouldn't give a f*ck about what we think of your musical tastes.

I'm surprised by that remark about Bohemian Rhapsody but I guess everyone has their own musical tastes...I'm not a big fan of Nirvana, I like their music but I don't love it and I don't like Smells like Teen Spirit any more than any of their other music.Army of GOD wrote:I agree with Neoteny, you should listen to what you like.
However, there are songs that have achieved a certain greatness, and I feel like that while you might not LIKE a certain "great" song, you can't deny how great it is.
Like, Smells Like Teen Spirit. I personally have a hard-on for that song, but I've heard some people say it's Nirvana's worst song (or like how this one kid said "Bohemian Rhapsody" was Queen's worst song. Jesus Christ I wanted to kill him). Ok, so maybe you personally don't like the song, but there is no denying that Smells Like Teen Spirit was one of the GREATEST songs of the 90s, possibly of the last 50 years. Well, the greatness of it is defined by me, and everyone probably has their own definition of great.
I've heard Yellow before and haven't heard much OF it, so to me, it's not a GREAT song (compared to other all-time GREAT songs [Stairway to Heaven, Bohemian Rhapsody, etc.]), but that in no way means that it's not GOOD (individuals like different songs).
Oh, and if you don't think Bohemian Rhapsody is a GREAT song, go f*** yourself! =P

Timminz wrote:Believe me, I feel the same way, but, to this day, occasionally I'll mention Muse, and someone will say "Who?", and then I show them, and they say, "Holy fucking hell, this is good! Why the fuck have I never heard of these guys before?!", similar to the way I reacted when some random Spanish dudes introduced me to Muse, in Brugges 2005. They actually laughed when I said I didn't know who Muse were. They thought I was joking, and could not fathom that someone had never heard of Muse. I traded an unmastered copy of my band's first album with them in exchange for their Muse cassette. Then we all got drunk (those Belgians sure know how to make beer), and stoned (we had all just left Amsterdam), while playing cards, and listening to Absolution.Neoteny wrote:No, I'm not. Perhaps you're thinking of Muse, or Placebo.Neoteny wrote:And what's this craziness about people in the US not having heard of them? I generally just listen to heavier music and I've still been oversaturated by Coldplay. How did you guys and girls miss it?
Also, who the f*ck hasn't heard of Muse? Placebo is one thing, but if you haven't heard of Muse you should git out of mah countrah!

Definitely positive. I've also noticed that they finally had a charting single in Canada, with "Uprising", from The Resistance reaching # 28 so far.Neoteny wrote:I know they've been getting a bit more airplay in my area, which I find to be a positive.

I bloody hate Coldplay - to my ears they do very little that's musically interesting. They just represent something which I wish didn't exist, a pinnacle of mediocrity that just placates people, doesn't make them think.nietzsche wrote:I must admit I'm almost a music illiterate, but hasn't Yellow by Coldplay become an all-time top song?
Did "Time is Running Out" not chart up there? That was the first I caught them.Timminz wrote:Definitely positive. Also, I will be driving between 11 and 12 hours (each way) to see Muse this Saturday, in another country.

Don't listen to Kings of Leon's latest album and you'll love them. Seriously. I loved them until that shit album came out.Neoteny wrote:f*ck Kings of Leon.
f*ck them to death.
I doubt you'll find many people dissing Tool. Hell, you, me, and Gabon could probably sustain a Tool thread on our own.

Nope. Like I said before, I'm continually dumbfounded by some of the people I know who have never heard of Muse. Most recently, some of the guys I'm in a band with. I mean, how in the hell does a fucking MUSICIAN, who shares enough in common with me to PLAY IN THE SAME FREAKING BAND, not know who Muse are?! IN 2010, no less. It bottles the mind.Neoteny wrote:Did "Time is Running Out" not chart up there? That was the first I caught them.Timminz wrote:Definitely positive. I was disappointed in that as I felt there were some more deserving bands out htere but like I said. I'm not a Coldplay fan to begin iwht.nietzsche wrote:No comment to this? :
