either I'm not understanding it or it just doesn't make sense but it sounds to me that the rules have been changed so that TOFU which has dominated the tournament and deserves the trophy could lose it to a randomly selected team (which happens to be Rangers-no offense to them as it could have been any team) which could grab the medal without deserving it?

From where I sit there are two possibilities in a tournament like this. We play out the regular season as we've done and the winner gets the trophy or, we play out the regular season and the top 4 or so teams (predetermined) advance to the playoffs. Regular season scores can either count or not count in the playoffs but it needs to be stated upfront.

In TLO 2009 there were no playoffs, we played out the regular season and the winner got the medal. I'm not seeing why it would be any different here but maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying.
