It annoys the hell out of me personally that those high school boys are wearing U.S. flag T-shirts anyway. Pisses me off when depictions of the flag are worn as clothing...it's not respectful in any way. But that's a different issue...

However, that being as it may...the boys were frankly TRYING to instigate trouble. Say what you want, but why else would they be wearing the t-shirts and bandanas on THIS PARTICULAR DAY when, per stated reports by other students, they didn't typically wear those shirts and bandanas? In my view, attempting to incite violence at school is worthy of being sent home.

Now, if it could be shown that these boys did typically wear these shirts and bandanas (by say...wearing them maybe a couple of times per month or so), then no they shouldn't be sent home because the situation is then a significantly different one.

Yea, I kinda agree. Just because they're half-Mexican in no way makes them "not racist". If they usually wear the clothes, then whatevski, but to wear them specifically on a pretty big Mexican/American holiday in a pretty big Mexican/American school, then they're idiots. Of course they're not going to admit they were trying to incite violence, and of course their annoying parents are going to defend them, but High Schoolers are pretty predictable like this.

It wasn't meant to be some pussified, watered-down rebuttal which you would define as "logic-laden." It was meant as a direct statement to express disgust at you, personally.

Perhaps this will help out your comprehension skills a little, you little twerp.

Yeah, actually, funny how the culture changes, when Abbie Hoffman first did this, it was incredibly controversial and "offensive" to many. Now it's often considered patriotic for girls to wear American flag bikinis.

The bandana was against school policy. End of that. For the rest....
As much as I favor display of flags, I have a hard time believing this kids were not trying to cause trouble. However, the thing to have done was to ignore it and to tell the students that thought it was "racist" that showing a US flag is not a racist act and to ignore it. Instead, the administration created a situation.

woodruff i do not agree with you a question for you. lets say same something like this happens

its the 4th of July and every kid is where red white and blue in a school and 5 kids show up where the Mexican colors and flags. If they where sent home what do you think the public would do?

A. they would sue for discrimination and would probably win
B. would call the school principals racist and should respect Mexicans.

and we all know that is what would happen! the only reason its this way is because IT WAS AMERICAN that they where promoting

(side note yes i agree about the flag on shirts and others it disrespectful)

Point out differences then Woody. Let's keep this to one thread.

Also I was thinking about that earlier... if there was a Mexican school near the border that had a lot of American students... and on the 4th of July some Mexican students wore Mexican colors... who cares?

I don't agree. Again, if those students had worn the Mexican colors consistently previously, then no big deal. However, if it was something that those students had not consistently worn previously, then they should also be sent home for attempting to incite violence at school. Hell, it takes FAR LESS than that to be sent home for attempting to incite violence at school...simply wearing certain colors in a certain manner on ANY day can be grounds for it, and for good reason.

Of course you have. You exercise it very freely. Sad you fail to support others rights to speak freely.

I do not agree with you but I will also stand for your right to vomit your views even when you try to deny others.

free speech.... Displaying the flag is a pretty simple one.

I agree with you about wearing it on a t-shirt somewhat, but I don't go that far with it. I would have hand-cloths with flags on them, but i would not own a towel with one. I would not use a bed-sheet with a flag on it....I think you know what I mean. I do have a couple T-shirts that I wear proudly. T-shirts are okay.

I also agree they may very well have been trying to stir up trouble. However, I equally agree that in America, when the rest of the children in the school have mexican flags painted on their face and flagged t-shirts, YOUR GOD DAMN RIGHT I'M WEARING MY AMERICAN FLAG T-SHIRT.

Had I been in that school, and the principal asked me to turn my american flag inside out, I would reply

Over my dead body
