Nice hanging gardens apart, that's more important than anywhere else.
I agree whole heartedly.

Rome, Paris, and even much of ancient Egypts culture was derrived largely thanks to Mesopotamia.

America im afraid, in my opinion, has had a far smaller impact than some have mentioned here. Although we feel the impact more because we are currently experiencing it, in 500 years, little will be said of America in comparrison to other countries and cities of note.

That is not a dig, i like America (some times :P) but i honestly think there are far better candidates.

Many of the most world changing decisions have and are made in D.C.

AND it is the center of world too.
America has been around for a little over 500 years now? D.C has been important for 200 years now? Maybe? Important in the last century, but I can't believe it's the most important city the world has ever known...

The most important city the world has ever known isn't in your fucking country. It's somewhere else. It's a question of history, not current affairs. Your country has been important for a couple of centuries, other cities have given us far more than NY or washington.

take your heads out of your arses and learn about the world. Not everything revolved around America. Just as nothing revolved around Australia.
You're new world, not old world.

But who gives a shit? 'eh?

just wave that flag like some brain dead cunt and believe that the USA gave the world everything that is what we see today.

If only a quarter of you cunts understood world history, we might have half a chance of entering a sensible debate.
Um... I'm an American and I didn't pick any city. And my list did not include any American cities. Get help dude.

Oh, I agree.. I just don't think Ped's rant was entirely justified.

I wish I knew enough to speak up more vociferously about choices. Mostly, I peaked here to try and see what others were saying.

Well I'm an American, my list had American cities, but it also had Babylon, so I guess Pedro agrees and disagrees with me at the same time?...

To all Americans who didn't choose an American City. Well done.

Happy now?

All I'm saying is that too many Americans, when given a question about anything to do with the globe, always seem to plump for an American answer.
I live in London, the epicentre of the worlds largest ever empire, but I wouldn't ever shout London. Why? - Because I can see the bigger picture.
Does that help to explain my frustration at some of the American-centric answers given in this thread?

Well this is fine and dandy but YOUR opinion in no way much matters and the fact that you feel your entitled to sling flames at the greatest country the earth has ever seen is rather sad and speaks volumes about who/what you are.

Why you are not forum banned at this moment is beyond me.

I dont think its fair for everyone to be getting upset with Ped.

Ok i dont fully advocate the way he went about what he said. But the message, at least in part makes sense.

Now i didnt read all of the messages so i dont know that a number of Americans chose american cities but i imagine a lot of Americans would.
Its both Americas (sterio typically) most endearing quality and frustrating attribute. The fact that so many blindly support their country and its achievments with little real understanding of impact or opposing arguments.

So i get what Pedro was saying and having explained it i would hope that people will back off a little.

On the flip side, Americans are from the only people to do this, they are perhaps only the loudest.

But back on topic

London has indeed been the nerve center of a fairly succesful empire but in reality it was no where near the largest, most powerful or een the longest. Now large parts of America and Australia (not to mention the far east) were influeced by English culture but England was far more heavily influenced by other cultures (my personal though of Babylon remains)

OK, it's impossible for me to work out a cohesive argument for any city in the East. Unless we are talking about Hiroshima/Nagasaki.

So no more Devils Advocate for me.

Truly I could see someone choosing one of those, but the answer has got to be Rome or London right? Likewise could it be Berlin just for ending the British Empire?

I grew up in Wisconsin and I can make the statement that there is no other place like it in North America for alcohol consumption...none when we were at UW it was not unusual for us to drink between 12-18 cans of beer on the three hour drive from Madison to where a bunch of us grew up...as the driver passengers always drank more because they had the piss jugg they could use, which was damn hard to do as the driver...you had to hold it in. Try that once...drink 12-18 beers in an three hours without pissing. Its not as easy as you would think it was.

Rome is the most important city ever, followed by London.

I'd have to go with Constantinople/Istanbul. When the Mongols wrecked the Western Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire held on for I think 500 years.
