The fleur de lise is pretty nice. What about just the word "new" in olive drab. With a cadet stripe under it in gold or silver.
NEW
I agree with the person that said you want to be earning the nice icons. I actually thing the olive branches and fleur de lise could be new high rank symbols somewhere along the way to the top.
I honestly don't see what's wrong with the fleur de lis. Unlike the Girl Scout picture, it isn't sexist at all. It has many more meanings than just "boy scouts"...
The feather is good, but I think we can do better symbolism-wise.
Or maybe I'm caring way too much about the site's implied rhetoric...

I like the concept of a scout. It is similar to the board game stratego (remember that one?) where the scouts had some abilities. I just don't like using the fleur-de-lis as representative of a scout as its implication is of a "boy" scout. So, if there is a symbol for a scout that works and doesn't imply boy scout, I'm all for it.

The fleur de lis implies royalty. The Saints use it too.

If you check out wuenn's signature their is a link to a suggestion that incorporates nicely with this one.
And new isn't degrading it's truthful. Is there any reason a new player should win or challenge on new world, WWII Poland, feudal? No and the new designation points that out, and would help remind everyone here with a designation less obscure than a question mark

Did you mean to reference me? I was silly enough to look up a player named "wuenn" and couldn't find one.
The most important thning you said here was that any new replacement symbol will be "less obscure than a question mark." Good point!

I think words are just as lame as a ?. What implies new, but doesn't say it?
Yep, Trainee too big, the shield posted above is too royal. You're right in that it is a search for something that implies new, how about a tree? Tree's are green and the word green is often used to describe someone new in a position. I watch enough of Deadliest Catch to think that a Green Horn might have enough understandable reference to work.
Or, How about a teat? Boob rhymes with noob. Babies are new and they suckle from them.
