it was a key allied victory that pretty much won the war for us.

The Battle for Moscow '41. Some sources have up to 7 million combatants involved.... :shock:

First time Germany had been beaten in battle (in WW2) saved the collapse of the Soviet Union and Stalin showed true courage by not evacuating east along with his staff.
Never been celebrated as much as Stalingrad (nor declared a "hero city" either) as Stalin was ashamed of "the panic" where some citizens rioted in fear as the factory base was moved east. The people showed great courage later though when the siege proper began.

Stamford Bridge - Ended Scandinavian ambitions in Britain
Hastings - Changed Britain
Waterloo - Finished off Napolean for good
El-Alamein - Reversal in the desert
The Schlieffen Plan - Brought Britain into WW1 (how different the world would be if the germans hadn't gone through Belgium)
Operation Barbarossa - Effectivly saw Hitler give up WW2 with a foolhardy attack
Battle of Adrianople - Ended the Roman Empire
Thermopylae - Legendarily heroic resistance
Battle of the Plains of Abraham - Removed the French from Canada
Battle of Britain - Prevented invasion of the UK, and ultimately led to the D-Day landings and ictory in WW2

Aside from those, El Alamein, Thermopylae, Midway, and others I can't be bothered to look up... military history rocks.

My parents live near Bosworth field (although its pretty much acknowledged to be in the wrong place, actually).

Our local church has the swordmarks from the soldiers sharpening their blades on the church windowsill and the Stanleys, who chose to enter the battle on Henry's side and therefore won the day, camped in the field directly behind my house. Many of the dead are buried in the churchyard as well. Some historians site the battle as actually being at the village itself (Dadlington, if anyone is interested).
