What religion are you?

Post by brooksieb »

I've done this before, and I'm sure many other people have, but one of the things I'd like to know, is, what religion are you?

When I was last on here I'm sure people thought of me as being a Ardent Christian, but, I've changed my thinking, I'm more of a Deist, I believe in God but have no religion, I think personally that is the best way because it allows you to free your thought under the chains of religion but I also like to think there is a Supreme being, and I have to act accordingly and Morally, and if there is purgatory, I may be judged.

I don't see "Marxist" listed.

I don't see Satanism on that list, or does that qualify as Paganism?

I put myself down as a theist for 'other'. I believe there is a God, basically in the Christian sense and definition. This is mostly do to my upbringing within a Christian church. But I won't join an organized church today as an adult because I see too much infighting and not enough living out of what those principles are. I won't go the deist route because I don't think that God isn't involved in the affairs of mankind.

By the way, I've been told that being a deist today is different than being a deist back in the 16th - 17th centuries. Does anyone know if that's true or not? What I mean when I say this is that deists back then did believe that God was involved in His creation whereas today they think He just made the universe and then let it be.

Hmmm...not sure. In my fairly uneducated thought on the subject, I've always thought of "deist" as someone who believes in God based on logic and what they've observed while rejecting the supernatural "proof" (God talks to me, etc...). So someone feeling that something like...I don't know (just grabbing an example of the top of my head)...because of the complexity of the eye and the different types of eye in the world, it stands to reason that evolution alone is not responsible. If that makes any sense at all.

Ok, fair enough...but there are some pretty extensive differences in those three, never mind when compared to the Baptists and Catholics.

Damn heretics. At least the Protestants Baptise their babies!

Well, I'm off to the Crusades, I hear we're "cleansing" Los Angeles. I'll be back in a few weeks!

Evidently you're unfamiliar with the meaning of "Christian".

I'll have to pass on that one. I can appreciate the humor but it's just a bit too cute for me.
