Saw My First Shooting Last Night

13 years in the city and this is the first time I've witnessed a violent crime.

We were getting ready to play our soccer game in the field across the street when BANG BANG FUCKING BANG. Some gangbangers were opening fire over a fence into someone's backyard. Pretty surreal experience. I never knew a handgun was so fucking loud.

CBC radio this morning was reporting the shooting and said it happened while "kids were playing soccer across the street". I don't think any of us playing soccer were under 30. The kids who were close by were the ones with the fucking guns in their hands not he ones playing soccer. :/

What if they noticed the witnesses and decided to off you guys as well? what if it was your buddies or your families house that was being shot at?

I spent 6 months in Toronto once, when I just arrived a lady told me that it wasn't safe anymore, that some people had started locking their front doors and that last year they had had 2 murders in the TGA.

I thought she was pulling my leg. When I realized she was serious I laughed. Two murders! People not locking the front door! Lol.

I was once in this bar drinking when suddenly some meth head comes in, takes a lead pipe out of his pocket and takes a swing at another guy at the bar. I remember how he was standing for a couple of seconds and then collapsed on the floor. Then he started bleeding and shit.

I don't know what happened afterwards, or did the guy survive. The ambulance guys sure were in a hurry to get him out of there - didn't even bother to bring in the stretchers, they just grabbed the guy from his arms and legs and ran carrying him.

I don't understand this scenario at all.

Did the ambulance come to the bar with the meth head? Or, was the meth head still attacking people in the bar when the ambulance arrived? Was this in Finland or some other country? I ask as I can't conceive of any circumstance with a trauma in which medics wouldn't apply proper spinal immobilization prior to moving someone, unless they were also in danger of attack and needed to quit the area, were trying to evacuate him from a burning building, or were outrageously poorly trained such as in a Third World country. And, if the medics themselves were in danger, why was there such a gap between the response time of the ambulance and the police? Or, why did no one in the bar attempt to subdue the attacker?

The meth head only assaulted that one guy. He didn't act aggressively towards anyone else, he was just sort of chilling there and everyone just sort of kept their distance to him - for some reason he stayed at the bar until the paramedics and cops came. I can't remember if there was a bouncer that night though. If there was then he'd have kept the guy at bay and/or confiscated any weapons, but my recollections are hazy about that.

As for the paramedics, the best I can figure is, the door to the bar was so small and had high steps so they couldn't get the stretchers in easily. Perhaps they considered it more important to get him into the ambulance as fast as possible, if he was already in a critical condition. Who knows.

Even with a small door it is shocking they did not put him on a spine board at least before moving him. Without knowing any more of the situation I say it's criminally incompetent to just grab him and go.

Actually, yes. He came to me and asked if I had any speed. I would have liked to tell him that even if I was in the business of dealing drugs I wouldn't sell to a nutcase like him who is likely to get arrested in the next few minutes, but I was afraid that he'd hit me with that lead pipe so I just politely told him no.

As urban as it comes here, in Helsinki. Admittedly, in a shady part of town - back then that particular bar was an infamous place, you'd always hear about stuff like this happening there... although not usually quite this violent - and hey, the beer was cheap.

When I was about five or six I saw a dude get murdered in the middle of the street by another dude with a ball-peen hammer. The first guy was running towards me and he tripped. Just like that, the second guy was on top of him swinging away at his skull. Even as the hammer fell, neither of them ever said a word. There were a ton of people across the street who all just watched it happen. Some big black lady was screaming "NOOO" and crying before the first guy even tripped.
I watched it. And then I carefully and quitely set down my action figures and went inside the trailer.

I never really thought about it, but now that I do I don't really think so... at least, I can't tell. I don't think of that as a major event in my life. My daddy was an abusive crack-head, and later, my step-dad was a meth-head. So I mean, I've had worse things actually happen to me.
Then again, maybe that alone is some evidence for nature VS nurture.

Well, now I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere.
Population - 86
Dogs - 64
Median age - 48
The safest place in the world.
The murder happened in a trailer court in Freeport, IL. We got a lot of run-off of criminals who were banned from being in Chicago's city limits.
Later I moved to another trailer park, that was labeled as a "Camp Ground" for tax-cheating purposes. When I got arrested I found out the cops all called it "Crack Alley." I love that.
