While I have not ventured on the sometimes zany, sometimes exciting, and sometimes capillary-pulling-out-of-the-still-beating-heart-due-to-the-pure-ineffectualality-behind-the-whole-hypothesis roller coaster of cinematography in quite awhile.
Nevertheless, Black Sheep caught my eye, so maybe I'll check into that.

I'm not sure if I want to see it. I like the TV show pretty well. I loved The State even more. However, my two favoritest comedy TV shows, Strangers with Candy and Da Ali G Show, turned out to be rather disappointing movies.
I'll wait for the DVD, probably.
Oh so it isn't a case of you judging a book by its cover, it's a case of you not having any taste.

Last film I saw in the cinema was Perfume: the storey of a murderer. I know its probably not running anymore but I loved it (pretty true to the spirit of the book if you've read that).

I don't actually want to see Reno 911!, I was just trying to steer this thread back onto its course. Strangers with Candy movie WAS horrible, though, quite sadly. And Borat, not to mention Da Ali G Movie, whatever it was called, were at least disappointing compared to the show.
Nah Borat was a brilliant film purely for its ironic mocking tone... The American frat boys on a road trip being a prime example... I howled pretty much throughout (although the naked wrestling was a little sickening).

Miller depicts violence very well without resorting to gratuitous aspects of it. Nightmare on Elm Street would probably do the head thing more to your liking. Stephen King is also good for that.
I've heard the complaints that it isn't historical because the Spartans talk of justice and freedom while their civilization was a violent and totalitarian society by today's standards. There is a reason they spoke of their freedom and justice. These Spartans were fighting against Xerxes, a man who would have made them into slaves and killed them.
And also, I must remind you that it historical fiction, based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller.
It's violent yet it is inspiring. A group of 300 soldiers; all of them knowing that they will die fighting for their lives, their families, and their beliefs. They fought to the last man and bought the time for their nation to rally and finally send out its army to meet the Persian invaders.
A truly inspiring if violent and intense tale.

You guys had almost convinced me that I should go see 300, so I started looking into it and found the funniest quote from the Rolling Stone review of it:
""...fanboys will thrill to the carnage and presumably forgive the puffed-up dialogue and regrettable lack of characterization."
or this one from the Atlanta Constitution-Journal, "...beautiful to look at and bombastic tripe to listen to."
I don't know, in the unlikely event that I can convince someone to go see it with me, I might give it a gander.
(Oh god, here I am setting myself up for more attacks from the 'fanboys'.)
