When I first saw your screen name I was shocked. Bogan is a derogatory name for Native Canadians. It is likened to the N word for African Canadians/Americans. Did a quick search and saw that it means something totally different in New Zealand. Funny how the same word can mean two different things in two different cultures.BoganGod wrote:In that case, mods please remove all rational and working parts from this site.....greenoaks wrote:anything americans find offensive should be removed immediately
Am intrigued by some of the comments earlier in this thread. Now if the accused is black, and "taking" the word back to "empower" himself, would it be an act of prejudice on the site to make him change his name? Does the site require proof of racial identity to use a word, that some are allowed to, but when others use it is considered offensive?
On a more light hearted note, has owen proved he is really jesus, because I'm sure he is offending a few christians.......... Look for it soon in cheating and abuse, offensive sig, religious baiting.

It would educate you.

it is like i said, if an american finds something offensive it should be removed immediatelysquishyg wrote:yes, words mean different thing in different cultures and in different contexts. the "N" word has such an obvious, hurtful, and offensive place in American history that it has no place being used as a user name on a casual gaming site. the line between egregious and acceptable may be blurry as we discuss more and more terms, but there is absolutely no reason that word (and a few others, i might add) should be used on the public areas of this site.
if some players want to start a private user group where the "N" word is openly discussed, defended, rationalized-that's fine with me (as an individual, and I am in no way representing the site in this opinion). But that word is too loaded to capriciously toss around in this community.
Thats would be putting Americans above everybody else on an international website, which should happen. Although if you want to go by American standards then you should recognize our freedom of expression which would render Swamp Nig untouchable. A username is merely a string of letters so dont look deep into it. If your gut instinct tells you to laugh, laugh. If your gut says 'hey, that guy pushed my button' then simply dont join his game.greenoaks wrote:it is like i said, if an american finds something offensive it should be removed immediately
it is american history that defines what the other 6.3 billion people on this planet find offence
I didn't realize the term "swamp nig" had non-offensive connotations in other cultures. Can you explain to us what it actually means, so we can put this silly thing behind us?greenoaks wrote:it is like i said, if an american finds something offensive it should be removed immediately

My question is - What if this is a black person, taking the word back, empowering him/herself by using a bad name, to state that he/she doesn't care what people call her/him? .
