I promise I will ask for the details next time I see him and share here. He's a great man who just wanted to live off his land and be free. He had a couple acres, with and orchard, vinery, berry forest, maple trees for syurp, dog kennels for breeding, small forest for wood, an acre for corn and other crops. he wired his house with those solar panels, he made his own alcohol and sold all his leftover to produce income (aswell as taxes!) I am pretty sure this lifestyle is what allowed him to save a little extra money to start his own business.
Of course, it helped that senior citizens were not dependent on him to work 60 hours a week to pay his fair share to social security. He was free to use his time to build solar panels.
