Praise the Dice

Post by Fireside Poet »

I'm weary of all the dice-bashing on here. What about those GOOD rolls? Who stands up for the dice when you clobber a 10 with a 4? Huh? What about those times where you actually WON a 3vs3 or a 2vs1? I know it seems few and far between, but I tend to grin like a Cheshire cat when it works. It is RISK ... R-I-S-K (non-hasbro ©)

So, cheers - to the FIRST thread where the dice are PRAISED for being so ... random. ;)

absolutely love them.....they are always random, always keep me guessing, and while they surprise me occasionally....they let me win some games, i never had a chance at...and let me kill some players so bad they actually leave negative feedback......all hail the dice...

YES! Finally somebody is praising the dice. Stop whining people. So what if you get clobberd 10-3. Shit happens. But remember that one time when you really needed to win that one territory, and you did. The odds were against you, but you still one. Remember those times, and not the bad. ALL HAIL THE DICE!

I really really really like the dice.

I mean, am I like... the only one here... who thinks the dice are kinda cute.

Especially the defender's dice.

They're hot!!

I mean they've got like... dimples to die for.

I once won like a 10 vs 8. Just to even it out going against someone for Mordor.

Of course, you were probably aided by Sauron's all-seeing eye. You can't lose when that happens.

They are smart too

I love how the dice keep me from my own stupidity! I always want to attack other big powerful countries, but with only my single little army, the dice repeatedly save me and pull me back from the edge of total humiliation!

I to, thank and praise the dice!

The dice do indeed have their moments....

winning 10-12 3 vs 1 rolls in a row...

taking on a 10 with a 7 and having 4 left over...

logging into a game and seeing that your opponent lost 20 armies taking down 8 of your own...

Excellent moments that almost wash away the pain of when you're on the opposite side of the above examples.

I have a game where I'd had horrible dice all game - people walked over my armies with nothing, I'd lose four men in a 9v1... and then, in a drastic turn of fate, my seven men took down three countrie with, respectively, 7, 3, and 9 men. Go dice! 8)

The dice are nice, but most of the time its when you dont need them to be.

This morning I was in a Rt game where my armies had been shattered and I had no bonus. Green held 70% of the board. I attacked 6 on 24 and brought the 24 down to 7.

Why cant I do that when I need to ?

I still got throttled the next round.

that looks like you are talking yourself into it lol

here is the thing that most people have a problem with.

they decide they got to have a card so they keep attacking then blame the dice

instead take your finger off the attack button and never auto attack

Actually, I believe it's the second, but anyway. The dice are pretty even for me. I have a few bad rolls I remember but that's because of human nature to remember bad and not good.

My attacking dice finally balanced out in %-ages, and the defender are awfully close (although the 1's and 2's are a little short! ;)).

My 3v1's finally got back almost to ideal, and now I just need my 3v2's to keep up their current pace, and I'll be happy again.

That, and I just won a 13 against 20, only losing 7... only to fail to take the 3 holding the continent behind the 20. Go figure. :)

So, in summary, I have some small praise for the dice right now. Better than nothing, right? ;)

Question for all of you winning 8 vs 20 battles and the like: Are you defending in these scenarios? I never attack another force when I'm outnumbered 2 to 1.

Anyway, I'd like to praise the dice for allowing me to take down 20 armies with 30 and only losing 2 armies in the process! Now I'd like to curse the dice because later in the same move I attacked a country with 1 army on it (the last country for that player with 3 cards) and it took 18 armies from me. Now my strongest opponent will get those 3 cards and undoubtedly kick my ass and take away my bonuses. Had I got that last army conquered, I would have had to cash in 2 sets and the game would be in my hands.
There is no luck, only preparation and execution.
