Can someone explain Clans?

What exactly happens when you join a clan? What is their purpose?

Since nobody has actually answered the man's question...

I joined a clan because I wanted to have steady access to games with all good players... got screwed by a noob one... or two... or 87 too many times. So I joined a clan of good players. Other people join clans because the clan has a cool avatar, because they like to cover each other's backs in the forums, to have a private forum to talk with their friends, to learn from other good players, or any number of other reasons. The Dragoons are a pretty good example of a clan of good CC players who try to organize regular games amongst themselves. KoE is a clan that will give you connections in a lot of games. The Bushwackers are an exclusive clan that basically play a lot of games with each other and in teams. The Region of Risk Fans is more forum oriented, although I understand they're currently involved in a challenge against Rogue State, who're sort of the anarchist type. Neither of those two clans is very strong in terms of player ability. The CWC is an all-British clan that has some damn good players. The Gridiron Gang is a bunch of people who are interested in football, while the Warlords of the Wort are a group of homebrewers.
The real answer to your question is this. What you look for in a clan determines what you'll get out of one.

I will briefly give you the rogue state skinny-

We have an off site forum that is maintained, we love interclan matches, as well as clan challenges. We recently took on the Jesus freaks and the outcome is yet to be decided. Puff and his boys are throwing down, and we have taken the challenge.

The question is, what are YOU looking for, and are you good enough to get in that clan?

Bushwackers are the best of the best, in my opinion. Dragoons also have good players if you are looking for a more game based clan.

The rest have star players but not everyone is too great. Shop around, and find people you enjoy!

I have an interest in the clans too. Is there a way to find them all, see who's in them or see what they're about?

some clans are hidden, other ones haven't been added yet because CC isn't accepting new clans at the moment...

The Jesus Freaks are... well... odd. They Spam the social lounge every once in a while if you want to find them.
