Allow tournament organizers to view fog games

Post by Super Nova »

Concise description:
  • Allow tournament organizers to see fog games without the fog in their own tournament (unless the organizers themselves are in the tournament).

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • I'm currently hosting a tournament that involves some games with fog. It would be nice to see how the game is progressing so as to get an idea of when it will be finished, so that the tournament can be planned accordingly. Some may say that this is not really needed, since anyone can see the number of territories each player has, but often this is very inaccurate reading of how the game is developing (for instance if one player has 4 territs and a stack of 80 on one of them)

No.

The TD could be bribed by one of the players to take a snapshot and then know whats going on.

You mean Tournament Organizers?

Also, this would take a lot of coding to make possible, and I really don't see that much of an advantage.

Also, TOs often play in their own tournaments, and they could abuse this to see the strategy of their future opponents when otherwise they couldn't.

Although I would like this as I am nosey and enjoy watching the progress. I see to much risk for corruption.

I think the room for error and possible negative side effects outweighs that of the benefits put forth by this suggestion. I appreciate your idea, but I don't think that it should be put forth considering all factors.

This should only be allowed if tournament directors are banned from joining their own tournaments.

Otherwise, ask the participants how the game is going.

Do you mean organizes or Directors, because there is a BIG difference? However, it's a bad idea either way.

I meant organizers. My bad. (fixed in the first post)

Everyone seems to have objections to this suggestion, which are valid, but this is just a rough draft of suggestion. Does anyone have any ideas on how to address the objections but still get the benefits?

The only way would be with an automated system that would not require a user to look into the game to determine the strengths of the remaining players.

A quick look at tert counts, which is viewable, and a short scan of the last couple rounds of game log should be plenty to gauge the progress...
