Would I like to see the same poll run for Democrats in Mississippi? Sure. Do I think it would be similar? I don't think it would be AS bad as that, but I do think it would be bad enough to be an embarrassing black mark also. But that doesn't change the results of what was done.

Basically, what you're doing here is saying "But they MIGHT BE just as bad!". That's even worse than "But they do it too!".

That's what you're doing as well on the other side of the coin. Basically, what you're doing here is saying that they MIGHT NOT BE as bad before a poll is even conducted. You're jumping to a conclusion before data is collected or even the attempt to do so.

Look, BOTH Woodruff and I have actually lived in deep Mississippi for a time. I don't know about Woodruff, but I still have contacts down there. Neither of us is merely referring to this poll.

The problem with Nightstrike all too often (not just here) is that he seems to think any even minor criticism is enough to utterly invalidate any point.

In this case, it was a partisan survey. Yet, neither my nor Woodruff's response were particularly oriented toward the Republicans. The issue is that so many politicians still think interracial marriage is wrong. The Pallin bit is telling, too, but I would call that a bit more partisan (because Pallin ran under the Republican umbrella).

Oh, and as a point of history, for a long time the Republican party was the party of more racial equality. But, then, a lot of people say that the Republican Party back then was more like the Democratic party of today.

It's only a matter of time before every single subject Woodruff argues about is turned back against the opposing person as a way to avoid their points. For the record, if this poll is true then there needs to be more done concerning the Dems, Libertarians, and whatever other political parties that exist out there. If it shows that this is a trend amongst people in that state regardless of political persuasion then that's a serious problem. If not, then we can address it specifically within the Republican party. Since it's not against the law to marry someone from another race in MS, it would be really strange for anyone to adopt a platform to reapply a ban.

It's unfortunate to think that some people consider race a bigger deal than what it is. However, we're better than we were 30 years ago, and in 30 years from now, I bet we'll be better than now. Things seem to be moving towards a more even playing field -- I hope that they may.
