The change came at a point when I had lost my other 2 games for the round and they had already qualified to advance. We never communicated, but it became increasingly clear that they took it upon themselves to give me an advantage.

Yeah that's really weird. [game]8818667[/game] is the game in question vs Krissan. Looks like he just gave up trying and threw the game.

Thanks to shaneback for the heads-up on this. Yes, I have 120+ games, and a more-than-full-time-job. Whenever there's a 1v1 game I consider inevitably lost - I drop&go to make it finish quicker. Often I drop in a "gg" in the chat, but sometimes I just don't take the time to do that. It's as simple as that.

As shane said - I'd never deliberately throw a game. I looked at the log - DKohler had an income lead of 17v8 (13+2+2, with the two bonuses geographically apart) when I went into drop&go mode. With the map/spoils set-up, that is beyond the point of no return, which any experienced 1v1 player will tell you.

Cheers,

/Krissan

Don't want to stir the pot and clearly there is a difference between throwing a game or simply giving up, but:

Throwing a game is throwing a game, no matter how you do it or how "malicious" your intent is.

Anyway, that's IMHO (with all due respect to shaneback). :D

I seldom see things that way & never react that way. However, my main 1v1 perspective is from this very tournament & some holiday speed games. I'll definitely take pessimism over manipulation; in this case, not giving yourself every chance instead of handing me a chance I was supposed to earn. It looked to me like you were losing on purpose, but I take it that you actually just saw it as embracing the inevitable. Although it would've been nice to have seen our game play out more, now I feel a lot better about benefitting from it. Thanks for explaining it that way!

I did call it 'throwing' without seeing malice, but now I'm using 'giving up' to be clear.

For the record: I never said, nor meant to imply, that Krissan "threw the game". I merely reacted to shaneback's post. ;)

Taking on 120+ active games with a more-than-full-time job probably isn't the best example of time management - not if it means you capitulate. But hey, they're your points so do with them what you will. Just it raised an eyebrow in a tourney where you only need to win one game to progress, that's all.

I'll be sure to look for a vacant spot in Round 5 ;-)

I have insomnia. I've accepted it, and now I've decided to let it work for me ;)

Seriously though - I wouldn't have played it any other way if I'd had only 4 active, though I then had taken the time to whine in the chat about losing :D

You'd think that, but from personal experience I've discovered it not to be true. I generally run between 80-150 games at a time, and have gone upwards of 200 for a while, and my score generally holds at Lieutenant/Captain, with the occasional blip up to Major. For the summer, I've decided to drop to minimal amounts of games, and am down to under 30 now, but my rank has plummeted to Corporal.

I have reviewed the game in question--here is where Krissan gave up:

2011-04-14 12:18:33 - Incrementing game to round 7
2011-04-14 22:32:04 - DKohler received 2 troops for holding Camp G Octavius
2011-04-14 22:32:04 - DKohler received 11 troops for 33 regions
2011-04-14 22:32:32 - DKohler deployed 8 troops on CO III
2011-04-14 22:32:40 - DKohler deployed 5 troops on D I
2011-04-14 22:32:43 - DKohler assaulted CM I from D I and conquered it from Krissan
2011-04-14 22:32:54 - DKohler assaulted T VI from CO III and conquered it from Krissan
2011-04-14 22:33:03 - DKohler assaulted T VIII from T VI and conquered it from Krissan
2011-04-14 22:33:12 - DKohler assaulted T VII from T VIII and conquered it from Krissan
2011-04-14 22:33:14 - DKohler assaulted T IX from T VIII and conquered it from Krissan
2011-04-14 22:33:32 - DKohler assaulted CM II from CM I and conquered it from Krissan
2011-04-14 22:33:40 - DKohler assaulted CM III from CM II and conquered it from Krissan
2011-04-14 22:34:56 - DKohler reinforced T III with 4 troops from T IX
2011-04-14 22:34:56 - DKohler ended the turn and got spoils
2011-04-15 13:43:38 - Krissan received 8 troops for 25 regions
2011-04-15 13:43:42 - Krissan deployed 8 troops on D III
2011-04-15 13:43:44 - Krissan ended the turn

I have no problem with him giving up at this point as Dkohler would win no matter what unless CC dice really took over :).

Krissan is a friend of mine and I would rule this way in any game with the same circumstances. I do it all the time myself. I know he would not deliberately throw a game.

I do appreciate your concern.

At any time if anyone has a question feel free to post the issue or even send it to me privately.

Although I do not respond to basic questions that should be known by now I do respond to any issues with the tourney

4/20--presently I am working through any mistakes or issues with games. I also will have that last bounty game against myself after I score everything. Round 5 may start a little earlier than May 1st but if you are freemium and planning open games by then be assured the round will last at least the seven days for joining games from May 1st though 7th.

Maybe I just don't give up as easily as Krissan (or other players) do, but that seems like a fairly even game to me at that point, and like you said, the dice can really affect a game with 5+ rounds left and there's always a chance that Dkohler misses a critical turn to shift the advantage.

Considering that at the start of Dkohler's turn, the territories were 32-26 Krissan, and that the game was played with escalating spoils, I'd definitely say Krissan had a shot at it, even if the odds weren't in his favour.

But that's just my take. I wouldn't say Krissan threw the game or was trying to hand Dkohler a win, he just calls it a loss and moves on faster than most people I know.

Yes but at the start of Krissan's turn it was 40-25 with two bonuses for Dkohler. Escalating does not factor into 1v1 on big maps unless it is a three card/2pair situation and even then it probably will not make a difference. Even with decent dice by Krissan he is down 6 armies plus per round on just deploy.

This is my opinion--and you are right that other players would not give up in this situation--some try and turn in when they are down 40-1 in territs and make a run. I think it is all personal preference.

On a tourney note--moving closer to round 5. I will have more time this weekend so I anticipate getting all updates done, getting all bounty winners their prizes (at least turned in for them) and making sure we are ready to go by May 1st if not sooner.

Just so you know I am not worried about the players that did not play in future rounds--They are still undefeated, but are not in the tourney. When we come down to a round (lets say round 6) and I have one player that is 6-0 I know that player has won one game each round to win the GA medal. No worries, when it comes down to giving out the award I will verify the correct winner.

Hope that makes sense--thanks--I am posting this in the thread as well since it basically concerns the winning one game per round from the start by only playing one game per round

[quote="JesseLacey"]Hey, I checked the first 10, 8 of the don't belong on this list (anymore). 5 of them didnt even play games in R2 and R3. Could you take a good look at this please, since it seems you also count players who only played R1 and won 3 games there.

agentcom wrote:Couple of questions:

First, how do people get the tournament data into an excel spreadsheet? I've heard HA and others mention doing something like that.

Second, why are there still round three games going on? E.g. [game]8868593[/game]. It looks like this one isn't the only one that was played concurrent with Round 4.

Looks like you have answered this, but yes any game going on right now is to correct some issues. Some players were allowed to keep playing because the contacted me about mistakes joining. After going through initialization times I have basically eliminated (for example a 4th game joined) and allowed player that made mistakes and contacted me to move on ignoring the 4th game initialized. Things like that--trying to keep everything straight has been kind of hard due to real life. I am taking the time to make sure everything is a good go before starting the next round.

On the first part of your question--it is a matter of running an add on and copy, paste, with data manipulation. Feel free to pm me on this--I will also send you a copy of this to your pm.

Re: HA's 200th Tourney (Round 5-May 1st)

Post by HighlanderAttack »

Although we have two players that are now 12-0 there needs to be some clarification so that no confusion occurs:

“Best winning percentage for the entire tourney” (minimum 25 games played)—so whoever has the best percentage over the entire tourney with a minimum of 25 games played will win.

The two players 12-0 lead this for now, but this can and will change

“First player to lead the field in wins”—after every round I will check to see who is the first player to lead all other players with wins. This means after the round is complete if someone has more wins than everyone else they have lead the pack and will win the GA Medal.

This will occur after a round is complete so it is entirely possible for someone with one loss to get back in the race for this medal.

“Player that lasted the longest in the tourney only playing one game per round”—I will check to see who lasts the longest in the tourney but only plays one game per round.

To be in the running for this medal you should be 4-0 right now and have played one game per round. I will list all players 4-0--this may actually include a player that started 4-0, but then dropped out of the tourney--I will only verify when the number of players with one win per round gets down under five players

“Longest winning streak in the tourney”—for this one, players that think they have the longest winning streak must report it to HighlanderAttack—I will keep track based on game numbers for the players that report their winning streak to me. This is wins in a row without losing.

For this I will use the players that report their streaks to me--I will use game finder to look them up and go by the game numbers in order as they are listed when looking up the information.

“Player with most perfect 3 win rounds”—this one must be reported to HighlanderAttack when the player completes the tourney—report how many times they went 3-0 in a round.

The two leaders now have four perfect 3-0 rounds each--this can change as the tourney goes on

I think both players have done a great job so far and I hope one of you get a medal by going undefeated in round 5. I just wanted to make sure the medals that are listed have a clear definition. I wish I had put in a medal for longest winning streak from the start of the tourney, but that is not one that was decided on. Good luck
