Well, now you guys are getting into fractional reserving. there is a world of difference between a bank that lends out 60% of its holding value as opposed to our current day banks that lend out 95% of their holdings.
It truly is a case of cheap and easy money versus strong. To see the consequences of cheap money policies, just look at anything priced in dollars today.
I think you need to check out today's drudge report headline.
Heard about it this morning. You guys can talk about that, but what I am referring to is the time America was on a gold standard, and did not loan out money they did not have. We had an industrial and communication and energy revolution with 0% inflation. All I wanted to say.
There was never a time where American banks did not use fractional reserve styles of banking. Even when money was simply a receipt from the local gold depository, there were more promisary notes (backed with gold), than there was actual gold.
I can't believe I have to explain this to you, of all people, Scott.
edit- also, the modern numbers are closer to 1 or 2% reserves, rather than the 5% mentioned above.
Wildcatting is not fractional reserving. it's cheating.
Could you paraphrase the point you're trying to make with that link, please? I can't watch it today.
fractional reserving might be the way we've done it for the last century, but it is not the way America has always banked.
Wildcatting was when gold-banks were supposed to get audited on a regular basis to make sure they weren't fractional reserving it. The banks, especially in the mid-west states, began to short term fractional reserve based on the time-line the treasury auditor would show up for their inspection. They would take a 10% stake that they could all loan out, and have the "bag" 10% at the first bank in lines of inspections, and then rush the bag 10% to the next bank before the auditor showed up to inspect the gold, and so on. Fractional reserving was illegal. If they got caught there was penalty for it.
The only way to increase the money supply was to increase the gold and for a while silver.

human nature will always try to cheat. rather than condemning the system that is abused (as all are) we should be condemning the cheaters.

Your first sentence contradicts your second.
this is exactly what i thought. if a system allows for "cheating" then it is clearly not a very good system.

The only way he will lose is if we are a nation of quitters. If we think a revolution can happen by a single vote or one contribution, we are wrong.

No, he can lose if the system is rigged. Both candidates, Democrat and Republican, have been, will be, and always will be hand picked. I saw what they did to Ron Paul in '08, it was unbelievable.

They are still doing it. Even after Ron Paul won the CPAC straw poll by 30%, FOXNEWS still refuses to mention him as a viable candidate. They would rather mention Sarah Palin, who has absolutely no chance whatsoever of winning any type of office ever again...
Ron Paulians can keep the faith, but the truth of the matter is that Jay is right here. The system is completely rigged, and the Republicans and Democrats just take turns back and forth. If Ron Paul becomes a threat, the Republicans will call him and his followers loonies and anarchists...so on and so forth.
REVOLUTION is the only "hope" for American...it will prove the only "real" change.
That's why I have masterminded a plan that involves killing millions of people in New York City by using an energy source derived from Dr. Manhattan. The world will unite against Dr. Manhattan and therefore Word Peace and unity will finally be achieved!

Well, then let's stick it to FOX! Wtf like we're gonna let the media stop us? F the rigged system! If he gets the nom, he gets the win. There are millions of people ready to do this the likes that would make the Obama campaign look like peanut butter.

But it's bigger than the media. During the '08 primaries a woman was in the news because her and both of her parents voted for Ron Paul in her town but the results showed that NO ONE in that town voted for Ron Paul! I'm telling you he won't win, THEY won't allow him to win.
THE DEBATE IS OVER...

i don't think i would touch him with a dildo either, but i would definitely consider voting for him
I would vote for him in a heartbeat. Our country needs an intelligent conservative in office right now to get us on financial track. The last thing we need is another big government, big spending idiot who is a borderline socialist. How would that help us financially? By the way, what mental problem did Stalin have? I know he was a "little" different, but what was the medical term for it?

Compared to the list of assholes Paul is going up against, he would probably have the best chance of convincing me to vote for him. That is depressing.

If you guys vote for Ron Paul, you will get something stupid like no more IRS! I mean...if there is no IRS to pay almost a third of my income to, how are the pot holes going to get filled? Fair question.
The IRS doesnt fix potholes. County, City, and State taxes pay for that. There is no need for the IRS, period.

Oh yeah? WELL I WILL CHALLENGE THAT RIGGED SYSTEM WITH EVERYTHING I GOT. I'm not scared, nor do I think I am wasting my time.
Yeah, it's kind of like playing yesterday's winning lottery numbers, today. The odds of it happening are almost non-existent but hey, "Ya never know!"
awww J!!!! Ron Paul won a couple of states in 2008, and came in second place in many more. Since that time we have seen an explosion in conservative values and gains in rejections of Rino's. You might agree with me he has a better chance in 2012 than in 2008. Not to mention, more and more people are seeing everyday for the first time that Ron Paul has been right all along.

but....the IRS does tax the guys 1/3 that fix the potholes......
Creeper, you want to defend the IRS, that up to you. I will only add that the IRS is not the only possible way to tax in America. There are literally millions of options. Some of them support freedom and choice and respect privacy more than others. Some of them are Tyrannical in their very nature and only make Cronies fatter. In a Democratic Republic, the people should have a say. Hardly a soul believes there should be no taxation whatsover, yet hardly a soul thinks the IRS is doing a good job. There is something in the middle, and if Ron Paul gets elected, I guarantee you we are going to find that middle.
In all seriousness, what is the "middle?" Replace it with another tax collection agency? I don't know how you collect tax without the IRS or an equivalent.
And I don't know about you guys but it think Creeper was being sarcastic.
