Space Map?

Hey I'm new here, and I was wondering if anyone has ever tried making a space map?

Planets = Countries
Solar Systems = Continents
Galaxies = special bonus (maybe)

I think there could also be some kind of special rules to how the game is played. Taking into consideration the distances in space, maybe it could take a certain amount of turns to reach a different galaxy or solar system. There could be space ships or something like that and i dont know...

I'm just wondering if this has been done/can be done/people think itd be cool if it were done?

A Space map is available already, but I myself have been thinking along the lines of a space battle map... Perhaps with ships? Something like a great space battle (such as the one featured here: http://www.awn.com/articles/people/john ... d/page/2,1), but without obvious indicators that it is "Star Wars" or "Battlestar Galactica".

star trek is even better, for one thing the total amount of content from 6 tv series totalling 30 seasons, 11 movies and over 500 books plus comics means that it is very well mapped out. i could tell you most of the important locations off the top of my head, and the cool thing is that it takes place in this galaxy unlike star wars because if you have to rip off star wars then it isnt really star wars nor real stuff, at least the premise for trek is real (just not the detailed stuff)

yeah thats pretty sweet too. what about stargate? eh? and have random encounters where gates dont work and the ability to fly to planets/use stargate?
need resources to power stargate and you have to collect resources?

just throwin ideas out there

The only reason I mentioned Star Wars was due to the fact that many of the ships are marvelous and majestic. I've only seen a few Star Trek, but I do recall that certain classes of ships were pretty spiffing (primarily the Jem' Hadar Class Battlecruiser). Nothing of the magnitude of a Super Star Destroyer, Mon Calamari Star Cruiser or Seperatist Trade Federation Cruiser (such as the Invisible Hand).

I wouldn't recommend adding planets from these places, due to copyright issues, but one could closely parallel them. ie. Christophsus could be "Christophus."

I wouldn't do the Stargates idea, as it would make the map complicated and confusing. lol Heavy attack ships should be able to bombard planets, though.

star trek ships are way cooler, i like the curves in the federation ships the massive bird like ships of klingons and romulans and the insect like dominion ships, borg cubes are quite menacing too. ISDs look like massive wedges, not sure whats so cool about that, the only cool thing about star wars ships is they have tons of weapons, but they rather suck compared to star trek ships, if there was a battle it would be basically quality vs quantity. some ships

I am totally going to write a Stargate themed map this summer. I dont have anything to do and I miss the hell out of programin.

Firstly... There's no programming involved in mapmaking. You don't "write" a map, you draw it, with a graphics software. I recommend GIMP.

Secondly... Stargate is copyrighted, so if you want to make a "stargate" map, you need to change all names etc.
